This. I'm okay with plastic surgery to fix defects or injuries or disease... But doing it for vanity just shows how vapid and hollow you are.

Twenty out of how many? What is the background rate? Without the answers to those questions, you haven't really said anything.

/Like 'em smallish anyway.

Thought of this after I hit the final "send"....

So, if it were possible to smooth his face back out, this burn victim kid would be vain for wanting such plastic surgery?

This.

... And I'm pretty sure cancer can be found in somewhat more than 20 women without faulty implants. It might be equally disingenuous to suggest that faulty implants help prevent cancer.

Isn't this the company that was filling the implants with their own "goo"?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/dec/14/france-faulty-brea s t-implant-scandal

So it's not really implants in general, just these ones.

I walk out of my office, turn East, and I'm looking at no less than three HUGE LED billboards each of which explains to women that they need plastic surgery RIGHT NOW or they will be laughed out of their social groups and shunned.

More and more Docs are turning to this kind of shiat out of greed. Up ramps the advertising and perceived "need" which generates more, farked-up women ready to throw cash at their "ugly" boobs.

Way to go assholes.

Let's look at the different ways this can be described:

20 incidents out of 1638 failed impants.
20 incidents out of 300,000 (conservative number) implant patients.

But I'm surprised Fox news didn't look up the CDC's numbers on breast cancer and apply them here:
Drawing a breath gives women a .12% chance of being struck by breast cancer, using the worst case numbers up above (which they usually do) increases that risk ten fold. The resulting article would invariably be titled "study shows women with breast implants ten times higher breast cancer risk"

20... wow that's a lot

but hold on a sec, the story says about 300,000 - 400,000 may have had the implants worldwide, and gives no indication of the sample size for the '20 with cancers' figures.

/wonder what the ratio is between false titties and cancer compared to ciggies and cancer

Except it was 16 cases of breast cancer, not 20. 20 cases of cancer.

No blame for the people who react to the message? They are all too stupid to recognize this? You are the only person who recognizes ths? What about these doctors peers? Shouldn't they be telling them to stop?

I've wondered how implants would affect the ability to to detect breast cancer. A little googling showed me that yes, implants make it more difficult to detect cancer with a mammogram. Also, there is some risk that the implant could rupture during the mammogram. But who cares? It's all about having that huge rack, right ladies?

Of course not. Who farking cares if somebody else thinks what you're doing to your own body is "vain," anyway? fark them. If there is something a person can do to their own body that helps them feel better about themselves, there is nothing wrong with that at all.

One woman in 9 develops breast cancer and they've only found 20 out of 30,000 who had the PIP implants have breast cancerso that means that it has protected the remaining 3,300 women who should have developed breast cancer BUT don't have breast cancer. They should start marketing it as a breast cancer prevention method and get theyselves a guldurned No Bell prize for medicine.

Isn't it fun to write biased shiat based on crappy statistics submittard.
