Since no true Scotsman would work at a Muslim university, I can't get outraged.

You shouldn't should be....or something like that....maybe

Christians love being persecuted. They positively live for it. We should fire more of them.

Good thing he left, as the king was about to invoke primae noctis.

Meh - all religions are assholes. It's in their nature to do shiat like this - and these folks would probably applaud - or at least defend the rights of - a Christian school that fired folks for being Muslim and not upholding the Christian mission of the school. So, no. No outrage over this one.

Unless you're a Christian. Then it's a terrible outrage that these people were fired, and obvious persecution of Christians.

What's the King of Dubai doing in Scotland?

Well, I'm not a Christian, but I'm also against sectarianism. I don't think people should be fired for their religious background or beliefs.

Trying to be the last king of Scotland?

What a fascinating article that obviously includes an investigation as to legitimate reasons why they might have been dismissed.

I've got one reason right here:

"I believe that Mr Abubaker's discrimination against me, because I am not Muslim, I am not Arab, and I am also a woman - and because I have brought a number of non Muslim/non-Arab students to the college - is a significant reason for my suspension."

I'd like to remind you that the speaker of this sentence was the head of the English Language program.

Plus they're both ugly. Even by Scottish standards.

I don't live in Scotland, so no dog in this fight, but if it was here in America, I'd be saying "hey, it's a private school. Let them fire who they want."

Nnnnope.

Stupid farking small town "university" professors think they're the shiat. Can't seem to find it in me to feel sorry for whatever befalls them.

I'm munching on Halal Haggis™ right now so I'm getting a little sick queasy of this thread.

And where's that Miss America from South Carolina who's all about maps and stuff.

I'm pretty outraged by that headline, but that's about it.

Was he Muslim when they hired him?

Does it say which denomination they are? I am leery to guess the denomination of these folks considering Scotland has...

Oh, wait. Australians? Fark them.

True fact: Muslims believe Jesus existed. Jews don't. All three share the same basics back story...and worship the same deity by using different names. Why the fark don't people understand this? If you're going to be all super religiousy, at least know what it's about.

I'm an atheist, and neither do I. But if I, for example, took a job at a Mormon school and they fired me for not supporting the Mormon mission of the school, they'd be within their rights. Not that I'd like it, but they would.

Which is why when I found out that Director job that paid so well was at a school with an unofficial religious mission in a "right-to-work" [read: right to fire] state, I withdrew from the interview process.

Meh, yet another step towards the violent expulsion of Muslims from Europe. Keep pushing them, Abubaker2. Europeans have a long history of electing violently racist xenophobes, don't think it won't happen again.

That would depend on the original hiring contract, and whether the school suckles the state-money tit. I'm not sure what the British rules are regarding state money and religion. The Queen is still officially "The Defender of the Faith" and all that shiat.

If I were that couple, I'd take my complaint straight to the King of Dubai---A king is no king unless he takes direct petition from the aggrieved.

What a very strange thing to say.

Do you also think Democrats don't believe that Sarah Palin exists?

So now the Scottish are being ruled by effete wankers as well as discriminate Muslims? It is really shiate being Scottish. At least they were ok with his marriage to a tranny.

I can't get outraged by this. I'm not even sure discriminating against people based on their personal beliefs is all that evil.

If you had a choice between 2 similarly qualified job candidates and the racist skinhead was actually more skillful at the task and was willing to work for 5 cents less per hour would it be wrong to hire the non-racist-non-skinhead because you were uncomfortable with the racist skinhead's beliefs?

I don't think very many people are going to stick up for the skinhead and the few that might had better be prepared to be tarred and feathered as racist.

I wouldn't hire the skinhead either, but where does society draw the line? Is it justifiable to not hire Democrats because you don't agree with the entire DNC platform?"

I'd fire them because they are too ugly for college.

False equivalency is false. I'd imagine that hiring a racist skinhead - unless your entire workforce was comprised also of racist skinheads - would cause massive tensions in the workplace, and cut down on worker productivity. The presence of 1 Jew/POC/Catholic/rational person would create immediate problems. THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM HIRING A DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN, SINCE DEMOCRATS/REPUBLICANS ARE WELL WITHIN THE MAINSTREAM OF US SOCIETY, AND DO NOT ESPOUSE VIOLENCE AND HATE.

It doesn't make a difference if it is run with public or private money. If their claim at being fired is due to religious affiliation then it would be in violation of the Equality Act 2010.

FTFM.

Turns out the Jews accept some guy named Jesus lived, was a Jewish descendant of king David and was stapled to a tree by the Romans. They don't believe he was the son of god. The Muslim also accept this Jesus guy existed, see him as a prophet, but since they have a better and newer prophet, they don't hang out with his followers. Even serious historians don't doubt that he existed, only his divinity and the stories around him are considered fairy-tales.

Cheers.

No, since liberals are only tolerant of Islam, not Judaism or Christianity. Of course, all those hundreds of phantom "hate crimes" they warned us about after 9/11 that didn't happen, outrage. But not here.

So yeah, selective outrage.

The rights aren't new, it was passed to combine and replace several older laws from the last few decades.

It seems like this college is probably farked then. Unless they can prove that is couple was fired because they're hellaciously ugly, not that they're Christian Brits.
