In other news, the voters are stupid.

Remember the intelligence of the average American. Then remember you're in rural Iowa and heavily religious. Then remember these stupid people vote and because of an arbitrary process, they are really important.

Then fear for our country.

I don't think they're stupid, it's just our politics has come to reflect our consumerist culture -- with numerous candidate 'brands' for essentially identical products.

I don't have any doubt we were better off when parties picked candidates in closed door conventions.

Broken-hearted fools and suckers

It's easy:

Gingrich: adulterer, wants to destroy constitutionally designed government, allow child labor

Perry: functional idiot, pawn of hard right wing fundamentalists

Santorum: IS a hard right wing fundamentalist, wants to ban abortions in cases of rape/incest and to save the mother's life (unless it's his wife), probably the most homophobic candidate

Romney: Mormon moderate pretending to be a right-wing fundie

Paul: Wants states to be able to legalize discrimination, opposes Civil Rights Act, wants the federal government to have no power except to ban abortion

Bachmann: Brain surgically replaced with a Whack-A-Mole game, no filter between her extraordinarily moralistic and authoritarian ego and her mouth, would damage international relations worse than Paul, but husband would bring FABULOUS sense of style to White House

Huntsman: Mormon moderate, which means he actually has a negative chance of being elected.

Pick any one of the above, and get Obama next November. I really don't see the logic of being undecided.

Every time Bachmann speaks, I think of this video. (new window)

I'm pretty sure there's an endless loop of that video playing in her head. She's not actually stupid, she just has a really hard time concentrating with that in the background all the time.

I hope you all realize undecided voters are the only thing that keeps our voting system from being a pure numbers game. At least with undecided voters it's a numbers game where X% of people don't have a dedicated stake in a specific result.

"Undecided voter" is a nice way of saying someone who is too lazy to do any research on a candidate but still feels obligated to vote.

I have zero respect for or comprehension of how someone can take a 16 month campaign process and still decide on the last day. I realize the vast majority of people aren't reading FARK every day of the week, but to be as oblivious as your average undecided voter takes effort.

2011-12-31 05:12:04 PM
American voters have passed through the propaganda version of a mechanical meat separator. They come out with an opinion, they don't understand how or why. They can't defend it. They can't speak on it past a few well crafted PR memes. But goddamn it if you try to change their mind they'll dig in and start sounding like someone who belongs in a place to keep the general population safe from them.

This is the perfection of propaganda that is orders of magnitude stronger than the self respect the average person can muster to form their own opinion. It's sewn up on the voter side. Sure you get to pick between two corporate puppets in the end, but that's all just part of the machine.

2011-12-31 05:12:18 PM
I probably won't bother voting, does that make me decided as in I've decided not to bother, or undecided cause I don't give a rat's ass.

2011-12-31 05:14:53 PM
I seriously don't understand how anyone can be "undecided." The two parties are so radically different that I can't fathom how anyone could have trouble deciding between the two. I kinda, just barely, understand how someone can vote Republican (though I don't understand how anyone can actually buy into that ideology and still tie their own shoes), but being undecided?

Do I vote for the establishment party that will maintain the system of government that has brought us relative peace and prosperity for a century? Or do I vote for the zealotic ideologues who hate everything about the 20th century and desperately desire to turn America into JE$U$LAND?

I dunno. More than 50% of Democrats would have to endorse mandatory baby eating and forced sodomy before I'd consider voting for anyone else...and I'd leave the country before voting for a Republican. It's not a choice between the lesser of two evils, its a choice between politicians, with all that entails*, and complete farking wackadoodle maniacs. The Democrats could be ten times as corrupt as they are right now (which is pretty corrupt) and I'd still consider them infinitely less dangerous to the future of America than Republicans.

*politics: from the latin, poly meaning "many" and "ticks" meaning blood-sucking parasites.

These are the people going undecided into caucauses/primaries, not the general election....where it's not the more binary choice, but a veritable rainbow of whackjobs to choose from in the Republican race. A smorgasbord of clowns.

You can't weigh the issues carefully since the candidates haven't even been picked. It's entirely possible (though unlikely) that the GOP will choose a moderate who is preferable to the voters in the middle (the bulk of the undecided) over Obama.

Also, I forgot to say something with this:

Take a quick overview of the Presidents since the caucus/primary system has been in place, 1968 IIRC. Then compare to Presidents before that time. Yeah there were some bad ones, but also Lincoln, Truman and both Roosevelts.

For some reason, I tuned into some awful right-wing radio show last night (don't know who, but it was around 8pm on 105.1 local here). Basically he was blasting Fox News and Newt Gingrich for tearing down any shot Republicans to beat the worst president America has ever had. THE WORST, that's what he said. I turned it off after he said "...hostile government takeover of the nation's healthcare industry."

But he's right on the first part.

1) The Iowa caucus is in three days. The article is about people who are planning on voting in the caucus, but remain undecided.

2) People who can look at the Republican candidates and not conclude that they'll be voting for Obama in November are completely out of their minds.

I'm not really impressed with Obama, but he's several orders of magnitude better than anything the GOP are offering.

I'm not talking about now, I'm referring to the idiocy we're going to hear next year if what you're saying comes to pass.

They still do not earn any respect by pretending they can't make up their minds. If you can't handle Obama, and the Republicans are still too weird, STAY HOME. No, your write-in or "protest vote" means nothing but a waste of resources.

It's too late for any new Republicans to enter the race. That moderate would have to run as an independent or third party.

The only reason I vote anymore is so that I can actually voice my opinion on politics without some self important smarmy jackhole pulling the old "Well, you didn't even vote so you're part of the problem" argument out of their ass. It's a self preservation thing. See, I don't want to go to jail after I put my foot up their ass for saying such a monumentally retarded thing. You took five minutes out of your day to take part in a broken and corrupt system wherein you chose between millionaire sociopath #1 and millionaire sociopath #2. Stop acting like it makes a bit of damn difference or that you're somehow better than someone who's sick of the whole circus and who'd just rather not be arsed.
