It's sad that that's the only Warren Zevon song most people know, because it makes people thing he's some kind of novelty songwriter, a modern day Bobby "Boris" Pickett, when, in actuality, he was probably one of the great songwriters of all time.

I heard a story about this on the radio a few days ago. They were only saying that the wolf could go into California. I was in Los Angeles at the time, and the lady on the radio seemed amazed that there was still such a thing as wildlife. She was one of the people who seemed to think that one wolf would magically turn into a huge pack that would eat all the farm animals and maybe a few small children.

I suggest hunting the most dangerous game.

And no, one juvenile wolf with a tracking collar telling you where it is doesn't count.

Veloceraptors on the other hand...

ANNNND this is why I hate hunters.

Drop a deer, or moose, butcher it and feed your family for a few months? Rock on brother.

Shoot birds and small game for the pot? Got no quarrel with that.

Take down an intelligent, beautiful animal that's helping restore balance to a wildly out of balance ecosystem?

Fark you, fark you very much

Not a good time to be a coyote in Northern California. Have to deal with wannabe wolf poachers out with their guns who are going to be happy to see a legal target too

Male wolves have a breeding season too, and the coyote breeding season occurs later, so this rarely happens.

If what happened when they returned to Yellowstone and Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a guide, more likely dead coyotes will be found where it travels. Wolves do not like coyotes.

The wolf moved to Cali because he was looking for the next best thing.

He'd been to Oregon, but it ain't that pretty at all.

Yep.

Having a healthy wolf population keeps the herds healthy.

But the hunters think they might, possibly, lose a trophy buck (Even though Wolves target the sick and old) and the thought of having a bit of competition makes their already small dicks shrivel up.

Look out Cali, winter's coming.

The area above the Klamath River is huge, rugged and almost completely unpopulated. It is my favorite place in the world to fish, and I killed my first (and only) deer there when I was eleven. I think having a wolf on the rampage in California is excellent. Now lets bring back Grizzly Bears!

it is just like the first mountain lion spotted in iowa in several decades

sighting was confirmed because the land owner (who owns zero live stock and does not have children) shot the animal.

it's not like iowa has a deer overpopulation problem or any.. oh wait, it does.

Ugnh.

Stuff like that makes me root for the animals...

I remember when they reintroduced the mexican gray wolf back into NM, the ranchers lost there collective shiat over it. Now we almost, sort of have a few packs that are not on the brink of extinction, and they are slowly trying to secretly kill them all off (Illegal baiting, and the ever so popular Shoot, Shovel, & Shut Up policy)

They are getting thwarted on most of those fronts though, because the wolves are smarter than they are. (They can smell the poisioned meat, and wont touch it... Lol's)

2011-12-31 12:20:15 PM
Far north California is enormous and lightly populated. The county the rancher in the article is from is the size of Connecticut and only has 30,000 people. There is plenty of room for some wolves

2011-12-31 12:23:55 PM
tehre are 3000, count them: THREE THOUSAND wolves in this area:

upload.wikimedia.org

my uncles have no problem bagging their quota of deer

per minnesota law and the minnesota wolf management plan the population will not be allowed to fall below 1600 individuals
outside that region of the state wolves are only semi-protected

You may get to see some glorious stories in the news about wolves eating humans ... as wolves continue to make more of these "major environmental steps". Wolves seem to prefer the delicious taste of unarmed children like yourself however. Here is a link to an article with many accounts of healthy non-rabid wolves killing humans ... for your reading pleasure. :-)
