Sounds like the kid from the Social Network.

Oooo, freaky. Reminded me of the House episode where the autistic kid ate raccoon poop & drew pictures of the worms floating in his eyeballs.

/Srsly, it was an episode

No thanks. I have minimal belly fat and my penis is large enough.

Interesting. As it happens, I have a tumor (Ocular Melanoma), and it seems like I can see the fuzzy edges of it using this trick, as well as the veins. Kind of a self-examination, as it were, heh heh. Not as effective as direct imaging (using dyes) or having a specialist hand draw the network of veins in your retina.

Laughing about it now, because the treatment is over and the tumor is shrinking... but the blind spot will always be there, and the radiation also screwed my vision in that eye, which is getting worse as time goes by. Ah well, I didn't have to lose the eye or my life, at least.

Very nearsighted; I see stuff like that every time I take my contact lenses out.

did it, it worked, and now what?

Is this the one weird trick discovered by a mom to reduce wrinkles for under $10, for which dermatologists hate her? Not to be confused with the one simple rule to reduce belly fat?

/Now to RTFA

Couldn't make it work. I gotta say that trolling in this day and age is getting WEIRD, man...

I'm nearsighted as well, and I only need moderately bright light to hit my eye at a funny angle for this to happen.

Also, those little dots that dash across your vision are white blood cells, not UFOs.

I'm not sure you're seeing what I'm seeing. I'm nearsighted myself, but all I ever see are those weird transparent squigly things that floet acroos your field of vision. Are you actually seeing a detailed network of veins?

Do it in a circle, and you'll get a web that almost looks like fractured safety glass, with some stronger lines.

Same here. I wondered how people thought seeing your vessels was new. Yeah, it's a pattern of squiggly veins, just for an instant, wow, hey, my retina.

Fascinating video.

No need to have linked to Gizmodo to have seen it.

Floaters are just debris and busted-up blood cells. The vein-sighting is a different beast.

Yeah, that was my point. I was replying to the guy who says it's all he ever sees.

No, I know what floaters are, they move when my eyes move. This is spider-webby like the TFA described; I see them when I don't have my contacts in and really can't see anything else.

This actually worked for me -- the effect is a bit subtle, but there's what appears to be a transparent network of lines going all over the place on top of your vision.

Very cool, actually.

Here's another one - if you can contrive to find a small window at the end of a relatively long hallway, as you walk toward it you will note that the hallway and window are stable, but the scene through the window will begin to bounce up and down more and more as you walk toward it.

Your eyes correct for head motion by stabilizing the majority of your field of vision, but it can't stabilize small "keyholes" while holding the surrounding area "still". Thus your visual system will choose to stabilize the larger area of the wall and sacrifice stabilizing the view through the window.

We used to have a small window in a door at the end of a long hall where I worked, perfect for this.
