I use a wrist rocket style slingshot for fun and I hold it gangbanger style (sideways) and use the top fork as a reference point.

Same here. Pull the pocket back to your cheek and you can line it up easily. It takes some practice to get used to the arc and judging distance. I'm not very good, I mostly fall short if I don't hit my target.
