Teenagers continue to do what they've always done

bingethinker: Teenagers continue to do what they've always done

No, this time it will be different! The safety of THE CHILDREN cannot be compromised. We can charge the parents for failure to protect, endangering the safety of a minor, contributing and negligence, to start. Introduce legislation requiring safety locks on all bottle caps and liquor cabinets. Regulate amounts of alcohol allowed in homes. Require registration of every bottle purchased and require records of consumption by those who have a legal consumption license, obtained only after a thorough background check! This time IT WILL be different!

And music is too loud nowadays, and people drive too fast, and there was less crime when I was younger, and this technology stuff scares me...

I'm seeing one of my friends on Facebook actually turning into an old man. He keeps reminiscing for the past. I'm just sad I won't see what tech will be in the future. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to how it was in the 80's and 90's. It sucked.

There's a commercial here talking about hosting underage drinking parties is illegal, etc etc. Cool-over-21-guy is buying his friends booze and leting them drink/play beer pong at his house, only, instead of ping pong balls the kids are using golf balls. Maybe the producer/director should have asked his teenage son how you actually play that game.

Not to be a prude or anything, but it does seem like people (especially younger people) drink a lot more than they used to. I'm not sure if it is media promoted or not, but when I was in school and we went out we'd have maybe 3-4 beers a night.

Maybe not because they are claiming that people are drinking more in alcohol than I can with water, and if I drank that much I'd be living in the bathroom.

So, they are driving farther than Daytona and Mexico now? Damn kids. Gas is expensive!

I think that depends mostly on where you are. I believe in australia for example a woman can retroactively withdraw her consent to engage in sex if she feels like it thus turning it into rape. Farkettes have been in such threads and reacted with skepticism that alcohol should be the determining factor in such a case and said they had drunken sex and it was consensual.

I happen to know the answer to that. Although I don't remember in which thread it was posted, a case was linked to in which a man who was passed out drunk(witnesses and the woman's statements confirm it) he was (while unconscious) manually stimulated by a woman who proceeded to have rape him and then hit him up for child support after getting pregnant.

From what I've heard, when the DAs prosecute those cases, they don't want women in the jury. They'd rather have men with daughters in the jury.

Many women have had drunk sex, and think that it isn't all that uncommon, nor is it really rape. Fathers look at what they want from the justice system to protect their daughters.

So much for alcohol prohibition for the 21 and under crowd.

But it's not the parents' responsibility. How could I be so callous to suggest such a thing...

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying it is unusual.

Let me guess in that specific case, the guy was forced to pay child support, and the woman plead out to disorderly conduct.

Since when does alcohol need to be involved with teens deciding to have sex? Hormones alone did the trick back in the 80's.

God I miss those days.

Although one time we had a toga party with tons of alcohol and I still can't remember who the girl was I ended up with. That was a party.

The media and their readers eat stories like this one up. It confirms their fear of teenagers by telling them what new horror the little monsters are up to now. The problem is that half the time the story is an enormous exaggeration. Also, they're an easy target because they can't vote yet.

I just remember living in southern Indiana back in my teenage years (I'm 33 now). While I will certainly put away the whiskey now, I didn't back then but I was in the minority of my friends. Drunken hookups certainly weren't unheard of back then. Neither was binge drinking. About the only thing kids today do that we didn't is stuff involving videos and sexting or whatever and that's only because we didn't have the technology!

You forgot: mandate "nutritious" meals in schools, implement anti-bullying and no-tolerance rules, helmet laws, car seats for kids as old as 7, remove children from "religious whacko" households, indoctrinate educate kids in how to make the planet greener, and teach them that all lifestyles are equally valid except the ones the State disapproves of (see "religious whacko" above). If your point was that the mania to control all aspects of life For The Children™ might get out of hand, that ship has sailed.
