Not really. The Torqueflite of the time was far better than other autos, and more or less just as good as almost any manual.

I would want some sort of authenticity check on this. There were about a hundred cars that were officially used on the Dukes of Hazzard as the General Lee. They had spotter planes in LA, looking for '69 chargers because they destroyed so many of them in production - they would literally chase people down and offer to buy their cars on the spot.

And that's not to mention that pretty much every '69 Charger has been co-opted to turn into an after-market General Lee, for personal enjoyment.

I'd like to know that, firstly, this was an actual production General Lee, and secondly, that it was the #1 as claimed. If it is, it would be worth a lot of money. But proving it might be difficult.

There was a day when the only thing I wanted to get into more than the General Lee was Daisy Duke's pants.

It sounds like they've got the provenance, and if so, I'm sure it's already been sold for quite a bit of money. Caveat emptor, however...

Heh...picture of me at Carl Casper's Custom Auto show at age 7 on my living room wall in front of The General. Was I ever happy!

I like when some doucheknuckle takes like a '68 or something, paints it the wrong shade of orange, and proudly drives it in parades and around town.

/maybe that only happens in the South?

I saw a picture once on the internet of a car hauler loaded with smashed/bent General Lees.

As a fan of Dodge musclecars I found it heartbreaking. Must have been over a dozen trashed Chargers on that rig.

I would like to know why, when I just ripped out a thunderous (yet desk chair muted) fart just now, it smells like cabbage pickled in a litter box when I haven't even been near either recently.

I remember clearly that I was crushed when I first learned that there were lots of "General Lees," because each jump pretty much destroyed a car.

I mean, what is there left to believe in?

I remember seeing a "real" General Lee at a museum when I was younger. It was a jump car and damn it sure looked like it.

Hate seeing that done to a 69 charger.
Rather have a Coronet, Roadrunner, Superbee, or a GTX of the same year.

Man, I know how it is. I want to find my '79 Impala two-door that I sold in Tucson in '96 and buy it back. Not because it was a great car (although it could go off-road in the desert without a problem) but because I sold it for so cheap and it means a lot to me.

It was a fun car. Even my wife remembers it fondly. We went on our first date in the US in that car. She loved it then.

I consider the Stars and Bars on a bright orange muscle car to be the gay-bait version of the "Free Candy" van.

It's a Barrett-Jackson auction. If they're gonna have a listing for the first General Lee, you can be sure it's documented.

It will go for the stupid amount-- and the same woman who bought the "JFK Ambulance" will buy it.

FTFS "No reserve". But I think it is a VERY ugly car, and the interior and motor look untouched, except for the roll cage. Why would they spend that much money rebuilding the frame (assuming it was trash after the jump), and repainting the car only to leave the other important parts looking like they just left the junkyard. I know they said pre-jump condition, but I do not think the paint was that good pre-jump. Did I say it was an ugly car? I am sure some DA will give WAY more than it is worth though, just because it was...well just because. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW UGH! Living in ATL is what it is...

OBTW, "over-restored junkyard rescue now on the block at B-J." Dead on there.

Hmmm, no reserve?

Right now I have the Pawn Stars in my mind "The market's really soft, and no one has the money for cars like this. I'll give you $10k and hope I can make a profit on this."

Yeah, I'd put in a $10k absentee bid. Just to make sure.

CSB time.
For a ~6mo had my sister's 68 charger (with an actual 8-track player) until she took it back and then sold it to people who used it for a crash car in DoH show. Am told it did some crash work as GL but would have been as frame and not actual panels due to model difference.

I feel your pain. I'd love to be reunited with my yellow '77 Fury 2 door...that damn thing took a licking like no other and just kept running like a champ. Never should have traded it, instead saved up a few hundred more dollars for the POS Blazer I bought back in 1993. Half the length of that car was the hood, under which lived and breathed a 360 cubic inch monster that would pin you back in your seat every time you hit the gas a little too hard. My wife has seen pictures of me and that car, and she too wishes I could have it back.

You mean the whole front end caving in during the landing wasn't enough of a clue? Come on, even as a kid, I saw that metal folding. Doesn't mean I wasn't planted in front of the tube every Friday night.

I want my '66 Pontiac Tempest back. Bought it in '92 in my junior year of high school for 300 bucks. 326 V8, 67k on the clock and a radio block off plate. Try and find a deal like that now.

Considering it's going to sit in some crappy auto museum somewhere for the rest of its life, does it really matter?

used to have a 71 Olds Delta 88....didn't look like much, but had a 455 V8 retrofitted with dual 4 barrel carbs....that puppy could lay rubber if I floored it when it was already going 80...
and WAY more comfy in the back seat than any of these new miniature cars
