The internet is becoming more powerful at making influential changes.

Verizon still sucks and owes me money in small claims court.

No mention of FCC in the article subby, you fail as bad as Verizon did with this fee.

2011-12-30 06:44:46 PM
But they were going to pass the savings on to the customer...
Right? am I right?

Have you considered putting a lean on one of their assets? It worked with a few banks to get their attention, maybe it will work here.

I didn't see any mention of the FCC in the article, but companies need to figure out that there are a few people out there who aren't morans, and that they won't put up with this sort of crap.

"Convenience Fee," indeed. More like another Fleecing Fee ;)

Misleading headline there, subby. That said, they'll work this $2 into their fee structure in some other way.

Since Verizon Wireless is legally a person, should the press release on their website still be in the third person?

If you have a judgement against them and it's past 30 days, you can get a "Writ of execution" in which you can simply go to your local Sheriff's department with it and they with you in tow can serve on the nearest Verizon owned facility (stores, offices, etc) and you can start seizing assets in which the Sheriff's department will action off until the debt is paid. (This will also include the cost of having to hire the Sheriff or constable to come out and do it in the 1st place) I guarantee you will have a check for what they owe you before you leave the parking lot. (I've done it. Shut down a company that owed me 500 bux and refused to pay. Ended up walking in with a constable and seized their main servers. By the time I was ready to leave, the president of the company had rushed back to cut me a check. I refused the check and said cash or cashiers check. Including the amount for the constable. Their employees unloaded the truck and we left)

"At Verizon, we take great care to listen to our customers. Based on their input, we believe the best path forward is to encourage customers to take advantage of the best and most efficient options, eliminating the need to institute the fee at this time," said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless.

If all they wanted to do was encourage people to use the "best and most efficient options", they didn't have to make the customers pay extra just because they're not doing so. A simple "Hey customers, look at these options you can use, they're better than the rest!" would have been enough notify customers. I never thought it's possible to put the words "encouragement" and "greed" in the same idea for the purpose of helping people!

THIS.

I'm glad they changed their mind, as it's my method of payment. I would have made things more inconvenient for them had they proceeded with the plan.

FTA
"The company made the decision in response to customer feedback about the plan, which was designed to improve the efficiency of those transactions."

You gotta love that sort of BS. How exactly does something done entirely online through near-instant computer communication, become more efficient when you take another 2$ from me?

2011-12-30 06:54:38 PM
It's not in TFA, but in other articles there was mention that the FCC had asked for more information about the $2 fee.

http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/30/technology/verizon_fee_canceled / index.htm?hpt=hp_t1

"Earlier Friday, the Federal Communications Commission said it was "concerned about Verizon's actions" regarding the proposed new fee and was "looking into the matter."

The makes me wonder about SOPA. The internet seems to be the only place citizens have any power to get information and a forum to convey to companies how they feel about that information, and spread the message. It seems like the internet is a threat to more wealth for companies, who we all agree owns the government. So....Tin foil hat ON!

Technically I would have to go back to Pennsylvania to work it out. I moved for work(laid off, new job far south) in the middle of all of it. It comes down to cost versus principle. My principle says to go screw them, but I would have to spend almost the same amount they owe me in transportation to get it worked out. However, how much credit rating worthiness I am losing over the years since they screwed up my credit reports is potentially worth tens of thousands more. I own my vehicles and have a great mortgage rate so I am apathetic about the situation now.

Sell it to a collection agency for $0.50 on the dollar then. They'll deal with getting the full balance from Vz plus their collection fees and random late fees. As kidsizedcoffin pointed out, spite.

The wife and I just merged our phone services into Verizon. She got an iphone I got her hand-me-down Samsung phone. We added a data plan and put me on her account.

The biggest thing I'm getting used to is texting costs money? WTF. . . and why?

Our choices were $10 fee per phone for x number of texts or paying 20 cents per text sent AND received. Along with 25 cents for pictures and videos sent.

This was a shock to me coming from T-mobile, where I had an unlimited Plan they honored when they inherited me from Suncom.

Luckily neither of us are big into texting so we should come out ahead without a text plan, but every time I receive a text I just hear a cash register going. . .

Since it's your credit report, I would suggest getting on it quicky; you're paying a way higher insurance premium than you otherwise would.

Actually, it might be a serious solution to the problem if you don't care about getting all of your money, and you might get slightly more than 50 cents on the dollar

It's funny that they make crazy amounts of money from texting, but they might go bankrupt if they have to pay the "$2 convenience fee" that they supposedly pay credit card companies. Go fu)ck yourself, Verizon!
