Back in 2006, Fark held its first Headline of the Year contest. I had one main criteria for it: to be eligible, a headline had to stand on its own. My reasoning for it was simple: a headline that was funny in relation to the linked article couldn't stand alone, and if we're talking about January headlines in December, a lot of the links to 11-month old stories are long gone, and the headline without the linked story is no longer funny. In a lot of cases, they don't make sense at all. And even though I liked them, they didn't really fit into the contest as it stood.

In 2010, we added a new category to the Headline of the Year contest to accommodate these different but hilarious headlines that contribute to making Fark pretty damn awesome. For each of these, when you click on the headline, it'll take you to the linked article.

To everybody that wrote these headlines, thank you and I'm glad that you're getting recognition for your efforts. To everyone else, enjoy and vote for your favorites:

Ah, I have adblock but I'm not computer savvy enough to use it properly.

Have you run any of the other "of the year" contests, such as "Mother"?

No "parent of the year" contest this year, the general consensus last year is that it was just too depressing. One more contest that I'm going to run today, which is for Puns/Wordplay, and then a TFD thread for the fourth quarter of best PS contests, so that there's a voting thread tomorrow for best PS contest of the year.

If you click on them, they'll take you to the linked story. At the top of that linked story, you should see the Fark bar with the link to the thread.

So will it be a total of smart and funny votes? Or just Funny?

Sorry....just a bit confused by having 2 ways to vote for a headline contest. I presume there will be two winners in this category - Smartest Context Headline and Funniest Context Headline. Just seems.....odd.

Scratch that...it was working yesterday. Don't know why it doesn't work now. Maybe some of the target sites block it...not sure.

I only voted for Funny, and will only be tallying the Funny scores. FYI

When will the "name calling" buttons be up and running?

I guess the "smartest" would have to be for the Hillis headline, since it turned out to be true.

+1 for the Peyton Hillis submission for it's accuracy.
