Even the Taiwanese are pointing and laughing at the NFC East this year. Too funny.
Where's all those punk ESPN pundits arguing that the playoffs need to be redone to prevent inferior teams from getting in? We heard from all you guys last year, what happened?

Well, to be fair, at least whoever wins the NFC East won't have a losing record.

NFC East winner will have a winning record, which is more than any team from the NFC West last year can say. I think they were arguing that at least a .500 record should be necessary.

Yes, because a below average 9-7 team making the playoffs is EXACTLY the same as a below average 7-9 team making the playoffs. Good observation.

Jerry Jones is the new Al Davis.
Until he learns to stay in the owners, box the Cowboys will forever be mediocre at best. Promoting the offensive coordinator who's first and last option was to "pitch it to choice" doesn't help either. Keeping a 40 year old backup quarterback to backup a starting quarterback whos top three recievers are: Jason Witten, Jason Witten, and Jason Witten's back wont get you out of the first round.

Jerry Jones can't die, he needs to take over for Al Davis as the crazy old bastard of the NFL that everyone rips on but fans of his team love. Only instead of saggy old skin and track suits, he's covered in too-tight plastic surgery skin and redneck haute couture.

Tony Romo must have some Penn state type photos of Jerry Jones because Jones should have fired him 2 years ago.
I wish they would have added the ghost of Tom Landry turning Jones away at the gates of Heaven and kicking his ass off the clouds straight to Hell.

The problem with this plan is that Dallas fans hate Jerry. They tolerated him when Jimmy Johnson was winning Superbowls, but that's all. They will never love Jerry. Ever.

i was feverishly praying for Philly to capture the East for that reason, sicne they would have gone with an 8-8 record. alas, Big Blue shiat in my cereal.
but yeah, as regulars on the NFL threads can attest to, i was making the same point. all the derp about rule changes (i.e., "the winning team should only make the playoffs if they have at least 9 or 10 wins", "if a wild card team has more wins than a conference champ *cough cough, NFC West* then THAT TEAM should host the first round game), i was saying, "relax, settle down, one year your conference will be the weak sister limping in with 9 wins, settle the fark down."
I'm hoping the Donkos or Raiders advance, by hook or by crook. as for the NFC, I think....ehhhh.......I guess SFO. Everyone seems to penciling in GB / Pats but that would be boring. I'd prefer to see the Tebowgasm or get beaten over the head with the incessant "AL DAVIS IS THE TWELFTH MAN ON THE FIELD!" crap you just know ESPN would force down our throats.

Right, but half or more of these guys were mouthing off that 8-8 or 9-7 shouldn't "be allowed" to get in either.
Plus, at least the Seahawks won their home playoff. We'll see if whatever wins the lEast can manage to do that.

and it will happen again. detroit is sitting on 10 wins, Atl sitting on 9. the best the East will do is 9. so a 9-7 team will host a team with a better record if either Det or ATL wins. shiat happens.

Plenty of the pundits wanted the current playoff format scrapped, and "10 wins or more" as the new requirement. What selective memories you east coast fans have. I just think its funny Taiwan is mocking your mediocrity, its worldwide. And the Hawks did win their playoff game at home, it wasn't like they were total failures. They "deserved" to be in as much as the 9-7 NFC east winner "deserves" to be in this year. So either be consistent with complaining the format should be changed, or else admit you only biatch when its not east coast teams profiting under it.

I still like the idea Simmons/Cousin Sal proposed, along the lines of 1st round BYE recipients and/or HFA holders get to choose their opponents in the next round. Sort of calling-them-out.

Bull. The complaint was a losing team getting in over multiple 10-win teams. Rewrite history all you want, but that was the issue for the vast, overwhelming majority of fans and "pundits." I'm sure there are a few out there who meet your recollection, but overall it was the NBA (or, worse, college bowl)-quality rule that lets shiatty-ass, losing teams into the playoff hunt and lets them luck-box a win or three. If we're going to do that, let's just let the entire league in, because, hey, the Colts COULD upset someone and prove that they "deserved" to be there.

But that wasnt the argument being made, the argument being made was scrap the current playoff format because "undeserving" 7-9 Seattle got in.
Either the format is legit, or plenty of other undeservings have gotten in, including whatever mediocrity comes out of the NFC East this year.
7 wins or 9, it really doesn't make a ton of difference, either you want to realign the playoffs without divisions being a factor and use total wins instead, or you must accept that whoever WINS THEIR DIVISION is legit. Period. You can't cherry pick and say oh, but Seattle can't be in because .... and then 180 pivot on your swivel chair and say "Buuuuut New York deserves because..."
Its either the format sucks or it doesn't. Last year, the punditry of ESPN and elsewhere said the format sucked. Why? because look at those embarrassing pathetic Seahawks, not deserving to get in even though *by the rules everyone agreed to play by they won* ... It was all about how we had to change the rules.
Now this year with no rules change, and *another mediocrity about to enter the playoffs* ... we get not only silence, but ... hey, it happens, just another year, some year there's always a low-win team that gets in.
Can't have it both ways. I don't see a big diff 7 wins or 9, if its a division winner it qualifies. Or you change the rules. But for some reason, and I suspect its because its NEW YORK OR DALLAS OR AN EAST COAST TEAM .. we hear nada, all we hear is how great the game this sunday will be.
Forgetting last year we had a similar battle between the Rams and Hawks, winner qualifies. Nobody suggested it was an Instant classic, but .. it was exactly like this weekend Giants/Cowboys will be ... minus all the east coast hype, of course.

Everyone else in the world does see a big difference between 7 and 9 wins. There's going to be a 9 (or maybe 8) win playoff team from the AFC West this year too, and people aren't complaining about that as much as Seattle last year either. Sub .500 teams hosting playoff games is a different thing. This isn't an east coast bias thing.
As mediocre as the AFC West and NFC East are this year, they're going to have at least 4, and maybe 6, teams with better records than the Seahawks had last year.

Although attendance is down, it is still league leading and some attribute the numbers to the caliber of opponents this year.
2011 - 85,036 average per game
Dec. 11 - 92,952
Still pretty good numbers.
