By the time the price of Skyrim drops down to where I'm willing to pay it, all these references will be 1) old and 2) gone 3) everyone will assume all humans know them already.

The headline was the most accurate thing on Fark ever. Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls game I enjoyed (and beat), but the barrage of idiot fan made videos or mods makes me not want to click on anything Skyrim related.

This video was a very nice surprise.

Just buy it now. It'll keep you from eating and/or going to the bar, so the game is actually a profitable investment.

There always has to be one, I guess.

Anyway, I kind of dug that, and considering the game's only been out a month, it's pretty impressive that he cobbled that all together so quickly.

Fun game, but I ran out of stuff to do pretty quickly. Maybe 80-100 hours of solid game play. Then it becomes a tedious job to track down every location. Meh.

Don't get me wrong. The game is beautiful, fun, very high quality. I'm just surprised people are still talking about it.

I'm the opposite. I could not get unto oblivion -- it felt like a walking simulator to me.

Skyrim has been a lot of fun, but I'm only a level 11 high elf, though.

I think that I could fight dragons for 5 hours and not get bored.

Whatever you do, don't get the perk "Impact". Breaks the game, especially dragon fights. With a lot of magicka and lightning bolts it's like infinite fus ro dah. Well... you can get it, just resist it's deadly power.

See I liked being whisked away to the Oblivion world to harvest rare exotic herbs and beat different bad guys (even though it DID get a little repetitive to climb up the same damn tower all the time). I also liked the menu layout a LOT better.

Last night I though maybe I just couldn't get into my character (wood elf), so I made a Khajiit. So far I'm enjoying seeing her tail swish back and forth constantly and hearing the bad guys say "Here kitty, kitty" when they start to attack me. I hope the dragons get a little harder to kill. The first two I did before getting a new character were really easy.

I miss the Oblivion menu system as well. I'm still finding it a little difficult to switch back and forth between weapons and magic. Still having fun playing it though. But, I have one complaint that covers all the Elder Scrolls games. There's treasure fill tombs and caves everywhere and they are allways full? Just once I'd like to go treasure hunting and find the place empty of loot. Maybe meet another treasure hunter complaining about the tomb was robbed before he got a chance to get anything.

I don't understand the 80-100 hours part. I've only done a couple of quests in the main story line, finished the Thieves Guild and done a bunch of the random quest and that took 40 hours. Haven't even touched Dark Brotherhood, The Companions, either side of the civil war, Bards, the College of Winterhold, etc.

I agree. I spent about 80 hours on just my first character, who only did the Main Quest and the Companions (and whom I was still working on when I accidentally deleted him). I'm approaching 80 on the second character, and there's hardly been any overlap between what each of them did.

I believe that people can get bored of the game at around this mark, but it's crazy to imply that this represents anywhere near the limit of the content of the game.

The game exhausts you before you exhaust it, and that's a good thing for an open world game to do.

People get really upset when you hand them a zonk like that. A small percentage of players would appreciate what happened, but a much larger majority would feel ripped off and complain loudly about how the game has "broken" dungeons.

Oh I don't know, I think it would be fun. I mean tons of the NPCs are supposed "thieves", but don't do anything except walk around until you talk to them? It isn't realistic. Though I've noticed there isn't much re-spawning in the game (though I could be wrong). If I get far enough I complete all the quests I might go on a killing spree and kill all the NPCs in the world for the lulz.

I finally finished up my first play-through yesterday. It got way too easy there at the end. I could one-hit kill almost anything. I could take down a dragon with no damage. The finally battle was the first time in ages I actually needed to use a potion. I'm starting over as a mage, and I'm bumping up the difficulty this time.

/The linked video was pretty good too.

Best game I've ever played. And I've been gaming since like 82.

3 of us on my block have this game. Each is around level 35 or so. We often get together and we'll talk about the game and the conversation is always "did you get to (insert mission X) yet? It's awesome" and the other 2 will be like "nope, didn't see that yet?".

Not always, but a lot. It's amazing the depth of this game. I think I'm around 50 hours in or so.

And you know what, the combat should be easy at the end, at least vs most mobs. Because you've put in so much time that the thing that was tough when you were level 40 is a walk in the park at level 75 or whatever.

It's always awesome to battle dragons, and the dragons are REALLY well done.

I can't wait for DLC either. Expand the map, give me some new stuff to try.

There should be a law where they have to make a new GTA every year, and a new Elder Scrolls game (similar to Skyrim) every year too.

I'm really impressed with the musical score. I will leave the game on just to listen to the score in the background. My husband and I share play a khajit assassin. I keep up with the alchemy, enchanting, and random exploration he takes care of the quests. It's a really fun game. Now if I could just get the hubby to stop getting my horses killed.

You're either really early in the game, or don't sleep/wait much. Dungeons reset after 30 game-days, I believe.

Okay, my next character is going to be male now. I keep getting "A guard might get nervous... a woman approaches with her weapon drawn." And I get tired of having the women of Winterhold complain that life in Skyrim is soooo hard for them. They are complaining to a female adventurer! Suck it up, ladies!

I wasn't complaining about the length of the game. It offers way more value than most games. I'm not even really sure I was complaining. I'm just expressing my surprise that people are still talking about the game. That type of chatter tends to die down after most people have finished a game.

Some 'Splainin' To Do: I believe that people can get bored of the game at around this mark, but it's crazy to imply that this represents anywhere near the limit of the content of the game.

The main storyline was fairly short. So was the Companions arc. The thieves guild was actually pretty lengthy. I spent a lot of time running side missions trying to fill up the bookshelf full of trinkets. The dark brotherhood was fairly short.

I was in the middle of the mages college arc when I quit and it wasn't shaping up to be very large. What does that leave? Tracking down all the words of power? The different dungeons were fun but became tedious pretty fast. The daedric shrine quests? 90% of the work is getting to them. Not a lot of time sink there.

I guess I could have spent more time "exploring" but I feel like I encountered the majority of stuff doing the above. I don't really care if I missed a cabin here or there or a random gopher quest in town.

Again, great game. But I don't really envision sinking more than 100 hours max into it unless you just have to get to 100% completion.

What makes you think most people have finished it? It came out less than 2 months ago. I don't even have it yet but if I had gotten it the day it came out, I would have had to average 2 hours a day to get to 100 hours by now. And probably a lot of people got it for Christmas, so they've had it for less than a week. The life of a game like this is certainly longer than a couple months.

If you have the Xbox system, you can favorite the items that you want to switch back and forth with (i.e. magic and weapons) and then use your 'D' pad to select them. I find it pretty nice, but difficult before finding that out. The game rocks by way.

I'm not sure if you're being willfully ignorant or not so I'll explain my point in a bit more detail:

Game chatter tends to follow a rough bell curve. Chatter picks up with pre-release hype, then spikes up more after release, then slowly settles back to pretty much nothing. The time period between release and nothing is generally about as long as the average player takes to finish with the game.

Given that I wouldn't expect most people to take more than 100 hours or so to be finished with the game, I'm surprised there's still chatter about it. Do you get what I'm saying now? Also, I'm talking about casual chatter. Not gaming forums or your own little group of gaming friends.

Yes I am being a little bit obtuse (because I'm the only one in the office and bored). But I think you're seriously overestimating how fast an average player will finish a 100 hour game. I was pointing out that it would take a pretty concentrated effort to have finished it by now, more than your average gamer is going to manage. And this is a thread on the Geek tab specifically about Skyrim, so why is it surprising that people would be discussing it here?
