I moved away 4 months ago, but used to live just next to a brothel simply named "The Club". It seemed accepted in our little town. There was a bigger one called "Monica" down the highway and you could often see Polish prostitutes waiting out on the side of the road.

I'm reading "Sin in the Second City" by Karen Abbott which features the "Everleigh Club" in Chicago -la creme de la creme of brothels in its days. The place had solid 18K gold spittoons and a nationally renowned chef, among other extravagances.

My brother and I drove from Las Vegas to Beatty for some New Years fireworks a couple of weeks ago. Once in awhile we'd drive past what looked like an abandoned trailer park. Those used to be brothels.

Was kinda hoping they would show the one that was shut down in Colombia, MO a few years ago. The news made a big deal out of it, but I heard it was just pretty much a run down house.

It seems most graffiti writing looks the same, do they teach tagging at community colleges or what.

Hint to travellers: Anything with the word "Club" in it is a brothel. It's usually written in six-foot neon so you won't miss it.

OTOH: They're mostly truckers stops, not the greatest quality girls...

Where I live there used to be about a mile of hookers all shoulder to shoulder along the road leading the the port. I used to drive past them every day on my way home. They'd flash their goods at any passing cars and if you made a newbie mistake like stopping at a traffic light they'd be all over/inside your car before you could blink. The trick was to slow down just enough to get them running towards you then speed off.

This road was where they put the Valencia Formula 1 track so they had a massive cleanup operation before the first race. They've all gone now.

when I last drove North on I-97, I stoped at each of the abandoned brothels along the way, and took pictures. they were mostly decked out in 70's white trash designs.

I was at these brothel ruins in Pompeii a couple of years ago. There were stone beds, and the explicit frescoes along the walls were of people engaged in various sex acts--a "menu" of sorts. I forgot the exact number of brothels that they had unearthed so far, but the number is sizeable, especially given the estimated population at the time.
