true - under authoritarian governments, dissident viewpoints aren't just illegal they're actively suppressed. problem is that authoritarians tend to oppress ALL dissident ideas: everything from relatively harmless up to and including the vile.

So, Arab countries who see Jewish people as a threat to their existence have the right to kick Jewish people out and jam their broadcasts and block their websites, then?

Not saying Hezbollah is in the right - but damn, assholes. Double standard, much?

Don't fark with the Jews after they threaten a lawsuit. They kick ass and take names in a legal setting.

but if they are using twitter to plan crimes, well, technically planning the crime is the crime, not the method of planning ...

yup, free speech wins
arrest them for a crime or leave them alone
or here is a good one, nuke the country which is supporting them
and keep nuking them until they stop supporting them

/lol like that will work

um
do you know ANYTHING about jewish history?>?????
the jews were expelled from pretty much every arab country.
their property stolen, their lives at risk

so yes, arab countries can legally do anything that they want to the jews living in their country
surprise surprise, not many jews want to live in the arab shiat wholes

Weaver95: I don't think that's legal.

It might be correct; the case being referred to is Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project.

That said, it's probably dumb. I expect the NSA gains more value in intelligence data from tracking terrorist use of social media than the terrorists gain in PR and recruits. It's also somewhat different than the HLP case, in that Twitter isn't specifically providing the service to them, but making it available to everyone.

Exactly. What they are trying to do here would set an extremely dangerous precedent, which is to strip the civil rights of anyone based entirely on a government declaring that person or organisation to be "terrorist."

I hope that I do not need to remind Farkers of the many political dissidents who have been labelled as such around the world for nothing more than disagreeing with the policies of their own government.

The law center, Shurat HaDin, describes itself as being "dedicated to enforcing basic human rights through the legal system," and says it has represented "victims of terrorism in courtrooms around the world."

Today I learned that Israel's list of basic human rights contains neither freedom of speech nor of the press. Which I guess isn't that surprising, but it still feels like learning that the drunken racist uncle you already knew to be a drunken racist actually joins lynch mobs on a regular basis.

It's a good thing that Jews don't have a historic reputation for using the letter of the law to pervert the spirit of the law that results in the ethnic name "Jew" being used as a verb and slur, or anything.

Uh. What do you think a terrorisy group is? If they are committing a crime, arrest them for that. There's no way you can ban a group of people from the entire internet.

Why are people under the impression that whenever a law contradicts an amendment, it trumps the amendment?

Yes terrorists are extremists but not all extremists are terrorists. Once you are a terrorist group, like hezebullah, in many countries it is illegal to provide support to them. Allowing them on twitter is support by twitter.

They aren't trying to "ban them from the internet", they aren't trying to stop all pro-hezebullah tweets, they are saying you can't provide support to a terrorist group because of "freedom of speech".

How about we sue Jews and Muslims to get them to stop mutilating the penises of their children for "religious freedom".

Freedom of speech means you can be as pro-hezebullah as you want. It doesn't mean you can do business with hezebullah.

When will it stop? Can I demand Twitter to stop Catholics priest from joining Twitter because I hear they rape kids? Will they sue Google next because some asshat from a Mexican cartel have a Gmail account? What's stopping them from just creating a new account?
/I say let them spew their hate and make it public so it's easier to track and the world can really see how farked up their ideas really are.
//You don't see the police asking Youtube or Facebook to shut down over the dumb shiat people post on those sites. They use those sites to catch asshats

Jacking with Jews in anything that is above minimum-wage is generally a bad idea.

BraveNewCheneyWorld: Why are people under the impression that whenever a law contradicts an amendment, it trumps the amendment?

Because laws tend to have higher degrees of specificity, whereas amendments are fairly broad.

Good thing America would never violate human rights just because someone is a suspected terrorist.

(I'm not arguing with you or anything. I'm just complaining about this year's NDAA.)

Hezbollah aren't your average Muslims. Dumbass.

Sure. Islamists have resoundingly shunned that org.

Which is why...
Hezbollah and its allies swept south Lebanon's parliamentary elections by a landslide

and

It receives financial and political support from Iran and Syria

and

They can organize protests of "Hundreds of thousands"

and

Lebanon's new Cabinet unanimously approved a draft policy statement which secures Hezbollah's existence as an armed organization and guarantees its right

You're right, islam offers no support to terrorists.

An Israeli law center said Thursday it is threatening to sue Twitter unless the social network cuts off access to groups, including Hezbollah, that are considered terrorist organizations by the United States.

Ha, ha, the U.S. doesn't do what foreign countries want, silly!

Denying people a voice is the best way to foster extremists and terrorists.
