Christmas Eve "day"?

2011-12-29 11:28:08 PM
Well they were just foster kids-not like they were hers or anything. Technically this would put in line for "care taker (or lack there of) of the year"

What does it being Christmas Eve day have to do with anything? Some people don't recognize or celebrate Christmas. In fact it was probably a good day to go, not much of a crowd to deal with.

2011-12-29 11:34:34 PM
And then there are foster moms like a friend of mine who takes it serious enough that she officially finalized the adoption of one of her now former foster children and wants to adopt another.

This coont in the story needs a slap upside the head, among other things.

She didn't waste any time gambling away that foster care money, did you lady?

She probably splits 10s and doubles down on 15 too.

Because it is a special day that you absolutely positively HAVE to spend with friends and family! And if you do not like or celebrate christmas then you are sad and pathetic.

One of my friends calls me every christmas eve, inviting me to spend it with her family because I choose to spend it alone, eating sushi, and watching movies. One year she even drove over to my place to try and get me to come over and hang out with her and her husband and her parents and sister and brother-in-law. She does not understand that I do not enjoy christmas and like spending it alone.

You have a great friend then.

It's your fault for not sitting down to explain that Christmas isn't a big deal for you, but thanking her anyway. Not her fault for going out of her way to make sure you aren't alone on a day when most of the nation *wants* to be with family and friends.

/nothing wrong with not wanting to do much on Christmas

Actually, I have explained it to her. Every year for the 5 or 6 years that I have known her! Even her husband has tried to explain it to her. This is just one of her "quirks" that she does not get (she is from a very close, Eastern European family). And, yes, she is a great friend.

And just to clarify, I was not blaming her for anything. My intent was to merely point out the difference between her and me.

That may be true, but this interesting game would almost certainly work to stem that evil tide of racism. If we can encourage people to compare individuals from different races before knowing the actual identity of their races, they will see for themselves that there are no actual differences between the actions, appearances, mental abilities, or physical abilities of people from different radial groups. That's because, as I learned here in the Fark world, races are actually non-existent social constructs ... just like dog breeds.

FTA: The three children are brothers, according to a police report. They were placed in protective custody and released to the state Office of Child Services, McGregor said

Isn't that what got them into this situation in the first place?

Sounds like this woman was keeping the foster children in order to make money for her little habit. I wish this was less common.

It's not just foster parents like this woman who depend upon the cash-generating abilities of those precious little profit centers. Four to six thousand dollar per child "adoption incentive bonuses" from the federal government (to the state governments) are vital to reward the wide variety of people who work in our nation's 12 billion dollar per year child kidnapping and relocation industry. Without that funding, it would be very difficult to incentivize state workers to locate and appropriate marketable children to make their "adoption fairs" successful.
