Yes, but he's playing for the team where Jake Delhomme himself committed THE JAKE™©, so he has to know that he's automatically respected by Panthers fans for even being able to throw more than 5 times in a row without an interception.

It would have been a more interesting interview after his *first* professional season.

I agree with everything Cam said as well as the article. I give the Panthers credit for drafting him #1 overall and I love the fact that he has basically kicked the critics in the nuts with his play this season. I hope he has continued success, cause I think he's an exciting player to watch.

/he got paid in college
//the critics are not racist
///he's breaking the stereotype..good for him

I'll admit it. I thought he'd be a bust. He proved me wrong.
I still think Dalton will have a better career however.

I like how he halfway plays the race card. I think the jury is still out on him. QBs like this usually don't last very long because of injury due to the way they play and because after an offseason to study them, defensive coordinators know what to look for in most cases. There are always exceptions to the rule, but its too early to see which side Newton falls on.

Here's the thing - He doesn't just hold the NFL record for QB rushing TD's, and 1/3 of the all-time career record for QB rushing TD's. He also broke Peyton Manning's all-time rookie passing yards record with a game left to play. He can actually throw the ball. That's what's so crazy. I wouldn't put money on Tebow being anything other than a statistical blip. One with a great attitude and incredible athleticism, but a blip none-the-less. He can't throw. Cam, on the otherhand has QB skills to match his size and athleticism. It's crazy.

No. He bought a laptop from somebody that turned out to be stolen.

Pratty: /If he cuts down on his INTs he will be one of the scariest QBs around

As his offensive line gets better and they get more options fo him to throw to the interceptions will go down and the number of times he runs will also go down.

steamingpile: Ummmm crazy, dog killer, bust, yeah I would blame previous black qbs for the stigma, for every warren moon you have 3-5 fark ups.

Yeah compare him to two bust after all of the good black QB's that played. Hell for every Tom Brady there are 3-5 Ryan Leafs or Cade Mcnowns.

I am starting to like him and tebow

hated them in college but now that they are playing in the pros i want to root for them

You hard-core Sports Tabbers know I thought he was going to be a complete bust. But he completely blew my dismissal of his potential out of the water. He's given us hope, and he's certainly got the work ethic Russell never had or the loose screw Young did.

He almost, ALMOST, makes me say, "Jake who?"

I dunno - Warren Moon was a personal fark up during his career. DUIs and Domestic assault charges don't look very good on a guy. Although there was finally an acquittal and he was convicted of other things than DUIs, the mud still stuck. As a pure QB, sure he was a role model but as a person, one who contributed to stigma during his playing career.

And yup, I watched him play in Canada, then in the NFL. He was fantastic.

4000 passing and 700 rushing is pretty farking scary. I kinda disagree with him though on his larger point. Early QB picks are notoriously risky reguardless of complexion. As far as black quarterbacks go, I think Warren Moon, who threw probably the best ball out of anyone I've seen in person. But yeah, given what he's done, how he's performed, he can say whatever the fark he wants, and I'm not even a Panthers fan.

I agree. They're handling themselves well and showing up for games. I doubt Tebow will amout to much, but I think Cam will do well with Rivera.

But I think Rivers, Orton and Cutler are decent people, so I doubt many people will agree.

I'm not saying I think he's going to be a bust at all. I agree he has shown amazing ability, but its a little too early to tell IMO. For now, he looks very impressive.

I think next season will tell you how good he's going to be. If he can stay in the pocket more and run less (but still run), it looks like he's going to be damn good for a long time. If he starts to get an inflated 'I'm the man' mentality and wants to do it all himself and runs more and throws less, he won't be nearly as good. Also see how defensive coordinators adapt. Especially the non conference ones.

I'm all for every QB not named the Raven's starter failing - but from everything I've heard about him the kid sounds to have transitioned well to NFL life. Studies hard, takes it like a job, and is a great team mate and community man. If nothing else, I think that'd be a fantastic story and role model.

I'm with you. As much as I like this kid, I want him to fail to develop completely. No one wants to face a monster like that twice a year, which is how the rest of the South feels about Brees. Unlike Brees, Newton has seemingly preternatural athletic gifts. If he is coached and self-disciplined to the point of matching Brees' freakish intellect, we're in for a world of hurt twice a year. If that were to happen, the only saving grace we might have would be a propensity for injury given his style of play.

Damn, that sounded racist, given TFA. What I mean is that Brees' abilities are from a crazy work ethic and thirst for knowledge. If and when Newton reaches that level, his superior athleticism could make him the most fearsome QB in the league.

I was not implying that Brees is naturally smarter - just that he's had time to digest and understand the chess at pro level.

you just remember there are 100x more white qb's who washed out compared to any expectation than black qb's. hell, just like the ratio of black coaches winning superbowls to black coaches not winning superbowls is much higher than whites, the ratio of elite black qb's to busted black qb's is much higher than whites. so go ahead and name those 3-5 fark ups and i'll fill a page full of marinovichs and leinarts

I find teh view of black qbs to be hilarious. There is a far higher percentage of successful black qbs than white ones. Russel, yeah hes hot garbage but so are 80-85% of the white ones that come out of college highly touted. If Blain Gabbert were black he would be catching hell. The examples usually touted like Vick and Vince Young get ripped constantly but have had above average careers for a qb. Mcnabb was ripped for years and was a top 10 and most of the time top 5 qb in the league every year while in Philly.

Because any black qb that even smells of failure gets moved to WR before they take a snap. When only the best of the best are drafted to play qb of course you're going to have a much higher success rate. So, in a sense, racism has helped the black qb?

I think that it's cool he works hard and gets it done on the field. He stays out of trouble too. I can't get past his shady ways at Florida and the salary he "didn't get" at Auburn though and I hope he gets his teeth knocked out by James Harrison/Ray Lewis/some other thug. I just know that an 18 year old that has the police show up at his door over a laptop he just bought from somebody may tend to panic and do something stupid because they think that they will get in trouble. But I forget at 18 you and most other Farkers were fully versed in all laws and handled yourselves like fully mature adults.

And even if he did still the laptop and didn't buy it from someone else, which was excepted by the police and courts, he did this when he was 18 and he took his punishment. Some people in here are acting like he should have been banned from society for life because he stole 1 thing. I know for a fact that most of you have stolen something in your lives, but you ride him because of what? Is it because he played college ball for a school you don't like? Or because he is black? Either way its a bunch of ignorant shiat.
