So he chose to be a bum?

Why am I supposed to care?

2011-12-29 04:24:28 PM
And it takes 3+ months after his death for people to realize his significance and for these articles to pop up.

Sounds like he won the Sacko Bowl

America's not always so kind to its regular football stars either:

Maybe he wanted to be like Caine from "Kung Fu" and just walk the earth meeting people and get into adventures....

I know in soccer you have to kick a ball through one of three hoops, with varying points awarded based on the size of the hoop

BECAUSE YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE SPORT IN WHICH THE ANNOUNCERS MAY AS WELL BE SAYING: "HE'S RUNNING AND RUNNING AND RUNNING AND . . . NOTHING HAPPENS!!! (or, " . . . AND HE KICKS IT TO THE OTHER TEAM!!!"

(most of the) non-US world, FARK YEAH

"The Wizard" would be a great nickname to have. R.I.P.

Let me get this straight, subby. It was my not knowing about his soccer career that caused him to not meet with city officials and re-up his welfare digs and end up dieing a penniless drunk hobo?

Why Would I Read the Article: Sounds like he won the Sacko Bowl

Aaand, thread over.

+1 for the trolling headline. So because it doesn't get good ratings on Tv means we don't know anything about it? Fark you, submitter.

no, we don't pride ourselves on 'not knowing anything about soccer', we just don't care.

not caring =/= hating

At least George had the good sense to ruin his life in a country that idolized him.

Heroin and subsidized public housing. Sounds like a winner.

Oh, it's another one of those headlines about how it is everyone's fault some guy is a bum.

So we should all feel guilty, or something.

Yeah, he "chose" to get laid off, and lose his wife and kids. You DO realize that alcohol and drug addiction are both physiological and mental, right? Nobody really plans on becoming an alcoholic, and although you are without fault, many people are down that road before they know they've even started. Get a little perspective.

If he was such a huge national hero in Liberia, why would he desert his native land to live in America?
If it was just because it was easier to get heroin and booze, he deserved to die alone and unloved.

I can't name one American Football player who was a star pre 1962 and had his career cut short because of an injury. And even if I could name one it still wouldn't make the news that they had died, stupid story

Smells like Ron Paul supporters in here.

what?
He decided to do heroin and drink too much.
Are you saying he caught some sort of disease that caused him to shoot up?

Nope, I'm saying that you don't have the slightest concept what addiction is.

That's ok though, I really didn't expect you to. It's easy to judge from up on your high perch. Looking down on people becomes second nature after awhile, and if it's a result of ignorance, that just makes you part of the 99%. Don't worry, you're far from alone...

I am neither a big soccer fan nor a follower of the international game. While I had never heard of this man his story makes me sad. I truly hope he was able to find some peace in death though it seemed to elude him in life and that we all fare better vs. our own personal demons.

Liberia? Well, yeah, even New Jersey is better than Liberia.

Nah, we just pride ourselves on not noticing the penniless narcoholiocs, soccer doesn't really enter into it at all.

Well, you might pride yourself on being a dick. I wouldn't say "we" all do, though.
