Some good perennial choices here, as well as a few I hadn't picked up on prior to now. It's just a bummer Chris Onstad took a year-long hiatus, or I'm sure Achewood would've gotten their usual obligatory-yet-always-deserved mention.

And since this seems destined to devolve into a "How could they have left THAT one off?" thread anyway, it bears mentioning that I find the following to be pretty consistently entertaining:

Cyanide and Happiness, Girls With Slingshots, The Adventures of Dr. McNinja, Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, Diesel Sweeties, Sinfest, Wondermark, Amazing Super Powers, Questionable Content, and A Softer World.

YMMV, of course. Humor is subjective.

The Penny Arcade strip was the best one in the list.

antidisestablishmentarianism: The Penny Arcade strip was the best one in the list.

I love Penny Arcade, but I think I like Mike and Gabe more than I like the strip itself. Gabe's blog post in particular always catch my eye.

For me, my top web comics this year would be 1. XKCD 2. SMBC 3. Wondermark 4. Penny Arcade.

To being included on the list? Anyway, Three Word Phrase has a lot of duds, but also the occasional gem.

I'm glad SFAM is on the list. Jon Rosenberg is a mad genius.

I am now a huge fan of The Oatmeal.

Thank you, Fark!

Oglaf! I lost my bookmark to that and I was having a hard time remembering the name. Thanks.

No Cyanide and Happiness? Fark you.

/best webcomic ever was SexyLosers. RIP SexyLosers

2011-12-29 04:29:10 PM
Only one on that list I've ever heard of is Penny-Arcade (which I like). I'll have to check out some of those others.

2011-12-29 04:31:02 PM
Questionable Content used to be fantastic. Things have fallen pretty drastically downhill the last year or so. Not a lot of comedy (which is why I first checked it out), and a whole lot of drama.

Go back and read the first 100 strips again. You'll laugh at a ton of them. Go read the most recent 100, I doubt there's more than a few chuckles in there (Yelling Bird excluded)

Order of the Stick is fantastic, but needs to update more. Ditto Erfworld.

2011-12-29 04:31:20 PM
Most of my favorite strips have been covered already, so I'll share my favorite new comic of the year: The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage. (new window) I love the art, but the updates are few and far between.

2011-12-29 04:32:01 PM
List is useless without Dr. McNinja, Oglaf, and Cyanide and Happiness.

2011-12-29 04:34:16 PM
I'm saddened by the lack of Happle Tea (new window), but it's a bit of a niche comic about cultural anthropology and mythology. The blog posts go hand in hand with the fun of the comic.

Through that comic I learned my love of crazy Finnish legends. Seriously, it's like they were all made up by a bunch of large, drunk guys trying to figure out what was better... and then someone found the hard liquor.

/what do you mean you accidentally forged a donkey?
//and then you melted down the donkey and accidentally forged a boat!?
/as I said, much love

The 10 best webcomics of 2011. xkcd expected to deliver scathing rebuttalcompetent strip that is lauded by shut in nerds everywhere as the cleverest thing in the history of humankind.

2011-12-29 04:39:49 PM
Completely missed the Penny Arcade one. Would have been perfect to show to all my friends who grew moustaches in November.

/Personally did "Neckbeard November"

2011-12-29 04:40:32 PM
I really really really miss Warp 9 To Hell. That was my favorite comic evar (with the exception of Calvin & Hobbes). XKCD fills a very different niche for me but is probably #3 for me.

2011-12-29 04:40:32 PM
My favorites are mentioned and not listed.

Amazing Super Powers
The Oatmeal

Every now and then Nedroid and Awkward Zombie are good for a laugh.

2011-12-29 04:41:19 PM
Oglaf is just one example of many that are way funnier than anything on that list and better drawn than all but one (Bayou, I'm not familiar but it looks like quality graphic novel stuff).

Yeah, haters gonna hate, but if you can't draw well at least be as funny as Perry Bible Fellowship, or learn to animate and do voice acting like HSR. xkcd rarely makes even one of my lips move a little upward. Just sad.

/Stop liking what I don't like!

2011-12-29 04:43:42 PM
List dies in a fire, and is torn apart by bobcats without The Oatmeal.

2011-12-29 04:46:48 PM
Damn you all for not buying enough Kittens = Pop Tars shirts and leaving me hanging on that epic Goats storyline.

/McNinja not being on that list is a crime

2011-12-29 04:47:14 PM
Psh Megatokyo should of been on that list.

I've seen all my favorites mentioned already with the exception of The Non-Adventures of Wonderella

/but yes, +1 for Dr. McNinja

2011-12-29 04:53:04 PM
I have something like 40 'comics bookmarked. Was just recently turned on to The Oatmeal. Good stuff, especially the sriracha love letter. Currently laughing myself silly while making my way through the Basic Instructions archive.

My favorite is Devilspanties

I wish Perry Bible Fellowship was still around so I could post a rant on how overrated it is and stupid people who like it are.

/alas, I have to wait for occasional Homestar Runner posts to unleash my hatedom

I like my comics to come from the newspaper. Call me old fashion.

No love for Calamities of Nature?

2011-12-29 05:07:39 PM
I blame Dr. McNinja's absence on time traveling dinosaurs. The arc just kind of felt long..........now Gordito playing basketball with the sweetest dunk on the other hand. Right back on track!

Actually he's doing some new Thin H Line stuff, and a completely new one called Depression Comix which is.. well, kinda depressing to be honest.

Obviously didn't, you would have seen is was a "best comics" list, not a "most pretentiously unfunny" list.
