I have some very, very dear friends who came within feet of getting killed at that show...Two in front of it, and one ready to step onto it. And while the latter one has understandably kept schtum regarding any potential legal proceedings (since he understands that discretion is the better part of professional valor), the former two were ALREADY utterly disgusted by the class-action before these two utterly-reprehensible $#!+heads decided to try to exploit it.

The worst part? The insurance companies don't even care anymore, they just want to settle... 1990 or so, I was working at a restaurant, we had a tile floor, and I saw a man 'slip' and fall. He used exactly the same forward stutter step I used in the past when I was messing around and wanted to scare my friends, or make a joke. I went and looked at the water spot, and it was about 2 1/2" in diameter and literally up against the wall. Not only would he not fall forward in the way he did, his foot would have gone at least a little sideways, which it never did, and the little puddle actually wasn't even disturbed. You fall dforward so you can catch yourself and not inflict any 'real' damage.

I was the only one that saw it happen, and my roommate was actually the waiter in this guy's section, so the Ins. company wanted to call him. He talked to them for a few minutes and mentioned that I had witnessed the fall. I told them everything I stated here, they said 'That's nice', talked to me no further, talked to my roommate for another 5-10 minutes and settled with the jackass out of court!

And it's OUR insurance rates that rise as a result. Ridiculous...

I used to work with a guy who loved Loved LOVED country music - a black guy. He went to see Garth Brooks at the Georgia Dome and when the guy running the camera for the giant screens found him, the only black guy in a crowd of thousands, he zoomed in and had his black face and bald head at supersize for so long my friend got embarrassed and tried to duck the camera. Kinda ruined the show for him. Not quite as much as having a stage fall on you would ruin it, though.

Opportunistic creeps who exploit tragedy for gain deserve to be in the public stocks in addition to any other legal punishment they can get.

I was just on a jury for a slip and fall case. A woman was suing a company for $500,000 saying she was permanently disabled. Then they showed surveillance video of her doing normal life stuff. People freaking suck.

In case it hasn't been said or DRTFA, the best part is these idiots didn't even make their story believable. I live in Indy and obviously the stage collapse was covered non-stop for a week or so. They said they saw Sugarland play a few songs before they left the stage and that's when it collapsed. I wasn't even there and even I know Sugarland never took the stage. Freaking idiots.

Sometimes it's cheaper to settle for $5,000 than go to trial and win and it chaps my ass.

i was sued by a preacher's wife/grandmother who falsely claimed I was negligent in her fall. Not only did she not trip on my property (she fell onto it while trespassing), she was caught in her lies by the investigator but they settled because she was a "sympathetic plaintiff". It turned out she had exceeded her lifetime cap on medical insurance and her kids wanted to keep the house for their inheritance and not sell it to pay for mom's care. Douchebags.

Nah, it's this one. Not many left, but the one I worked at in Phoenix is still there, although that's it for Phoenix now... It is actually the location where they developed new ice cream flavors, had a special kitchen/lab in the back, rather portly gentleman would come in every few weeks for a couple of days and putter around. Decent food, good ice cream, shiatty insurance company... :-)
