Subby, Dumbass tag belongs to NYC, not the tourist.

Harsh? Yes. But, if you're a dim-witted yokel who feels they need to be running around the Big City with a handgun, you deserve to be locked up.

Silly woman, doesn't she know that there is no 2nd Amendment in NYC?

2011-12-29 11:57:49 AM
"You'd think states would reciprocate with the Second Amendment. She has a license to carry in Tennessee," said her mother-in-law, who lives in Manchester, NJ.

Agreed since it's two parts of the constitution. The second amendment as well as Article IV, Section 1 which talks about full faith and credit. That said:

"Everyone down there carries, and she just forgot," said the woman, who would not give her name.

WTF is wrong with you, Tennessee?

Article writer calls it an "illegal gun". But it wasn't illegal. Dumass for NYC indeed. Here is "knowing" that their nazi gun laws prevent 100% of their gun crimes.

Sources don't believe Graves' intentions were sinister.

Oh, well...that's different! If sources don't believe she meant any harm, who are we to argue? .

Don't concealed carry classes teach about reciprocity?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

A friend of mine got busted in New Jersey a few years back. He'd packed a pistol for a fishing trip and was trying to talk his way out of a traffic ticket. Usually directing the subject of discussion to the handgun you're carrying will establish a rapport with the nice officer, at least in Pennsylvania.

In New Jersey, not so much. What a shiatstorm.

maybe nyc should put up signs on all the bridges, tunnels, roads, train tracks, airports, etc in the city that states that guns are not allowed. you know similar to what some of the old west towns did. after all, nothing bad ever happened in tombstone...

biff1: Don't concealed carry classes teach about reciprocity?

I guess her concealed carry class didn't. I know which states my concealed carry is honored and New York State is not one of them. If you have a concealed carry and want to know which states it's good in, check out handgunlaw.us.

Even with that though, NYC wants to make sure only two groups of people are armed: Police and criminals

I'm glad to hear that the good people of TN support reciprocity. I have no doubt that they'll welcome gay-married New Yorkers or medical marijuana carrying Californians with open arms.

Here in PA all you do is fill out a form and submit it to the local sheriff. If you're turned down, you just mail order one from Florida and you're good to go.

And no, I'm not joking.

I was in NYC last night and as I was riding packed subways, walking through streets crammed with people and eating and drinking in standing room only bars and restaurants I couldn't get the nagging thought out of my head that you know what this place needs? More guns.

In NYS, even if a NYS resident has a valid NYS concealed carry, they cannot carry in the 5 boroughs of NYC. And no, I'm not joking.

I just remember that I can't carry in NY, NJ, or MA, and I'm usually "safe".

Maybe if you have a license in your state to conceal and carry you should probably look up the laws in other places before traveling there. I know this is a radical thought. Why are most gun nuts pissed scared of the world around them that they feel the need to carry a gun everywhere they go? I thought us Liberals were supposed to be the pussies.

Because criminals have guns and the police have no obligation to protect anyone.

That sucks.

So you want to walk around with in a gun in the very slim chance a criminal will pull a gun on you? Why not walk around in a fireproof outfit in the off chance you catch on fire? Why not walk around in a rubber suit in the off chance you get hit by lightening? Why not just live in a bunker to shield you from the scary world out there?

Dumbass tag belongs to both parties.....her for not doing some easy research and New York for having awful gun laws.

/Always research the concealed carry laws when I'm about to visit another state.
//For example, Oregon won't honor my Washington CCW permit, but Idaho will.

How are certain locales exempt from the 2nd Amendment?

Also, was this person part of a well regulated militia?

Slightly redundant.

You want to tell that to Dr. Suzanna Hupp who could only stand and watch as her parents were murdered by George Hennerd? You may have heard about it. October 16th, 1991. Luby's Cafeteria, Killeen, Texas. George Hennerd drove his 1987 Ford Ranger pickup through the window and started shooting at anyone who was there, including Dr. Hupp's parents. Dr. Hupp had a gun, but under Texas law at the time, she was not allowed to carry it into the restaurant, so she had to leave it in the car. 23 people were murdered with another 20 injured. Had Dr. Hupp been allowed to carry her firearm into the restaurant, that number could have been much smaller. Luby's massacre

My gun is like insurance. I hope never have to use it, but if I do, it's there.

It's a good idea to carry if you live near Memphis. Lets leave it at that.

Not relevant. The 2nd Amendment is an individual right not tied to service in any militia. And person arrested is a woman, so she was not a part of the militia (unless she's a member of the National Guard).

mikemoto: Subby, Dumbass tag belongs to NYC, not the tourist.

Nah, it's for the tourist.

4 year medical student yet doesn't have the common sense to know cities have gun laws, and LTC's don't cross over state lines. Hell, she would have been arrested in Virginia if she got pulled over.

Ignorance is never a defense. If anything it's a giant red flag that of irresponsibility and unseriousness.

2011-12-29 01:17:10 PM
Why would anyone carry a gun in NY? It's the second safest city in the northeast.

GWLush: It is illegal to conceal and carry in NYC. Therefore the gun is illegal in NYC.

Unless you are a LEO or wealthy or politically connected. Those categories can get a NYC carry permit.

Of course Emperor Bloomburg feels safe in NYC, he has a security detail with SMGs in close proximity at all times.

2011-12-29 01:17:42 PM
I doubt the tourist had any bad intentions with the weapon... I mean she DID try and 'check' the gun. But really, do people bring guns on vacation? To a major city? A hunting trip or something, sure, but if you know you're going to nyc you don't check out the laws first?

Meanwhile, NYC continues to enjoy its status as one of the safest city's on the planet.

You're right.

Why put on a seat belt, or lock your door, or use secure websites for online purchases, or wear safety glasses or have life-health-any kind of insurance or buy a car with air bags?....pussies.

Same system in Georgia, fill out a form at the court house and they mail you one 3 weeks later, 1 week if you tell them you run a Pawn Shop, I wish I was joking. I was chatting with the clerk and said, "I just took over a Pawn Shop and need a license", and she said "oh I will fast track it for in that case."

Looks like they took it through a screen door.
