The man is an empty windbag because he can't afford to offend ANY coach, player, executive, or official, because he knows he'll eventually coach again.
What's sad is, this is still the best MNF crew they've had in many years.

"I respect his knowledge about the X's and O's when it comes to coaching and playing the game of football, but I have very little respect for him when it comes to officiating and his knowledge of the rules."
Isn't that one and the same? How can a coach be good with X's and O's and coaching if he doesn't know the rules?

Jaws is terrible. Trico is pretty good, though. Gruden is insufferably annoying. He has so many NFL players' dicks in his mouth it is amazing he can speak at all.

Yes, because the ensuing butthurt, apologies, and resignation that would ultimately follow are so worth it so you can hear a professional speak freely (caveat: only when you agree with it). I'll go easy on you; I will only damn you to 1 year of Dennis Miller commentary.

That will never happen again. The NFL and the networks that partner with them don't want announcers disparaging players like that.

No, saying someone "sucks" or "need to be fired" is unprofessional. Leave that for the blow hards on sports talk radio.
I'd prefer an announcer that explains situations, explains that a player is missing this or that skill, is overmatched here or there. Or a coach is using the running/passing game in the wrong situation here.
And, yes, you do hear that.
You won't hear "The Bears need to fire Martz during halftime durrrr hurrrr!" And I don't want to hear that.

You do, but with those three, and especially Gruden, the actual analysis which may include a fair assessment of an incorrect decision or play gets drowned out by the overly effusive praise for the execution of a 4 yard run up the middle or a 5 yard slant to a WR that happened the play before. Turn the cockslobbery dial down from a "10" to a "5", and I really have no issue with that crew.

There was a link on here about a month or so ago, about how MNF was trying to hype the Chiefs-Pats game. Jaworski basically took on the challenge of hyping the Chiefs side, knowing full well that they sucked out loud. And of course during the game he made a comment about how he really liked Tyler Palko, thought he had the stuff to make it in the NFL...and two plays later Palko threw a pick.
Other than that, Jaworski is a damn good analyst. Watch Edge NFL Matchup (if you can find it, I think Sundays at 8am), he and Merrill Hoge know their stuff.

They rarely talk in cliche (and call themselves out on the rare times they do), which alone puts them above almost every other sports show on TV.

Unfortunately it used to mean that they'd go off on random tangents and talk about the weather, local events, NFL news, or just riff on how useless the teams are. Now it's "we've got 4 seconds to kill let's see how many times we can say Tebow".

I love Jaws when he's breaking down tape. He's phenomenal. As an in-game analyst, he's worthless, because he gets caught up in the Gruden lovefest with every player on the field.

I love Jon Gruden not because he's a great announcer (he's not), but because half the stuff he says is so homoerotic and creepy. I watch MNF mostly for the ick factor.
A coupla weeks ago he kept repeating "power to the tight end side" and it was the repeating soundtrack to my nightmares.

I would say there are a large percentage of players that don't understand the rules. For example, the defense cannot score on the extra point or two point attempt, yet I see teams trying to do that almost every single time they have the opportunity. And then you have the personal foul penalties on quarterbacks and receivers which nobody except apparently Roger Goodell understands.
Anyways, why should the announcers be held to a higher understanding of the rules than those participating?
