Perry is better funded. One of his new ads is called "Part-Time Congress," a modest proposal to downsize the role of a legislative branch that has run up big deficits. "Cut their pay in half, cut their time in Washington in half, cut their staff in half," Perry says in the ad.

Translation: "Destroy the separation of powers and make me King of America." With what sort of simple person does this message resonate?

I'd expect a few nuggets of wisdom from this up-and-comer.

Hahaha! It's funny cause "santorum" means "poo poo"!!!

2011-12-29 10:31:24 AM
I knew this day would come. This elaborate game of King of the Hill the Republican Party is playing - the race to find the Anyone But Romney candidate - would eventually push Santorum, who basically no one really likes, to the top. His anti-gay views would hurt his chances among people who wanted this country to be truly free, but the Republicans want no such thing.

Can't wait to see the Republican butt-hurt in this thread.

Man, this is truly funny, never in a million years did i imagine they'd actually do to Santorum what has happened to all the others that have 'surged'. I thought for sure he would silently drop out like all the other losers.

They'd rather have SANTORUM be 'surging' for the caucus, instead of RON PAUL. That's rather amazing.

RumsfeldsReplacement: Feces and semen combine to form Santorum

Hmmm... "Felching Santorum", sung to the tune of "Waltzing Mathilda". Soon to be on stage at all finer Republican leather bars.

/ having that thought in my head is actually less disgusting than whatever comes out of Republican candidate's mouths.

Boxcutta: Translation: "Destroy the separation of powers and make me King of America." With what sort of simple person does this message resonate?

Most likely the same person that gets behind Gingrich's plan to send US Marshalls after judges deemed "un-American".

When Santorum's numbers start to fall, it will not be a collapse--it must be referred to as the the Santorum Prolapse

I think in the end Romney will be able to contain Santorum with the backing of the Republican party and a firm grip on the electorate.

max_pooper: Santorum innuendo never gets old.

However, Santorum does, at which point it becomes rather crusty and hard to clean up.

Moral: Get rid of Santorum early before it stains everything it touches.

Paul is still 6% ahead of Santorum, who is in third.

Someone around here took that infamous photo of the Santorum family and put a lengthy narrative on it, something about the boy molesting the dog, etc. Anyone have that version? Teh Googles fail me.

Why it hasn't been Santorum's 'turn' is one of the great mysteries of 2012.

Rick is actually an intelligent and affable guy. It's funny how dogmatic religious beliefs can really get in the way of being a reasonable and well-liked person. I'm not just referring to his stance on homosexuality, that if he could he would get rid of civil unions and rewind the clock 20 years on gays in the military. I'm more referring to his extreme, uncompromising, eschatological stance on Israel and how that should steer us to preemptively strike any nation that Israel asks us to without question. He's well to the right of Bush on that issue, too.
But other than that, he doesn't have much in the way of firm opinions; he would be pragmatic on taxes, debt, and social programs. It's a really interesting combination.

Rick Santorum supports racial profiling, attacking any Muslim country who looks our way, and completely closing the door to gay marriage. The guy is hateful and a moron

2011-12-29 10:57:55 AM
If Santorum were elected president we'd have our very own "Jack the Ripper" scenario as his son roamed the streets of Anacostia harvesting hooker organs until he had enough to make a set of bagpipes. Look at that picture and tell me he doesn't have a mini-fridge full of oft-raped stray cat torsos.

Rick simply believes in, and cares about, his interpretation of the Bible more than he cares about seeming reasonable or being nice to those who disagree with him. Most men, when it comes down to it, care about some idea or another more than they care about getting along with their neighbors or being well-liked.

To put it another way, I think you are really misusing the word "hate". Hate goes along with rage. Rick doesn't have rage.

He cares about his interpretation of the bible, and it is this interpretation that is the source of his hate - but don't be mistaken, it is hate nonetheless. If he, or anyone that believes the same things that he does, sees that homosexuals are progressing towards equal rights, it will stir rage. Just look at the religious right, do you really think that there is no rage?

There! Are you happy now?

I have no problem with Santorum moving ahead in the polls. Better him than Gingrich. Santorum is just a garden variety politician with the splash of creepy religiosity republicans seem to demand in their candidate these days. President Santorum would be merely ineffectual and in over his head. A Gingrich, Paul or Bachmann presidency, on the other hand, would be disastrous for the country.

Is it Huntsman's turn yet?

Of course there is rage in the religious right, what I am saying is Santorum doesn't seem to be a part of it. He's congenial, but firm in his incorrect beliefs.

Jjaro: Is it Huntsman's turn yet?

Huntsman is hanging in there in hopes of picking up the nomination in a brokered convention. He will never win a primary because the republican Party already has a Mormon candidate with unnaturally good hair. Also his willingness to serve his country as Obama's ambassador to China and his unwillingness to spout conservative orthodoxy on a range of issues makes him too sensible and competent to be selected as his party's standardbearer.

2011-12-29 11:47:02 AM
If RON PAUL takes the top spot in Iowa, and Santorum comes in second, the race is going to go from circus to absolute clusterfark in about five seconds. The pundits will go apeshiat, and the Republican insiders will start angling for a convention coup.

Of course, Santorum will finish near the bottom in New Hampshire, regardless of any national surge, while RON PAUL is in prime position to take a respectable second to Romney.
