I now feel slightly dumber having read this.

NOOOOPE.

Stability is far more important than almost any other factor in an election.

Not to mention: Why the hell would Obama add a favorite GOP target to his ticket? Why would Hillary attach herself to Obama's second term like this, when she can run for the big seat in 2016 and keep distance from a lot of Obama's policies?

2011-12-29 10:25:30 AM
Hillary might be the only human alive that Republicans hate more than Obama.

An Obama/Clinton ticket would be the best way to mobilize the Republican base to vote.

Obama/Jesus would be worse.

Not gun-toting, gay bashing Jesus. But peace loving, heal the sick/feed the poor Jesus.

Agreed. If this is true (in the works) I would have to question if anyone wants to lead this country. The GOP is out there doing their best to make sure they don't get the job.

I'd love to see an election campaign between these two different Jesuses. Epic fun.

Um, no thanks.

I don't care for Hillary. She's too refined of a politician, to the point of being off-putting.

Your comment is sooooo 2008. Hillary has upped her stock in most circles with her performance as secretary of state.

And, frankly, the Secretary of State gets a whole lot more respect and press than the VP, and without being associated with any of the administration's domestic problems. Her photo is in newspapers all the time with various foreign dignitaries. Why would she trade all that foreign policy cred for a symbolic post when you know she's dying to run in 2016?

2011-12-29 10:37:55 AM
They should do it for the lulz. Can you imagine if the Democrats did that and the Republicans had a Gingrich/Bachmann ticket? It would be pure entertainment.

2011-12-29 10:38:34 AM
The Dems need to do something like this, if not this exactly.

Keeping the unelectable Dick Cheney in the veep spot for 4 more years instead of grooming a successor was one of the dumbest moves the GOP has made... and that's a bold farking statement.

Having VP and SoS on her résumé sure wouldn't hurt her chances.

All the Obama jokes my neocon relatives keep forwarding me are the Hillary jokes from 4 years ago, and the Bill jokes from before that. An Obama/Hillary ticket may cause their search-and-replace to go into an infinite loop and they'll be unable to forward me any more emails in Comic Sans. Net win.

2011-12-29 10:42:10 AM
Oh man.

God I hate Hillary Clinton.

{wrooonglexluthor.jpg}

I don't know how anyone who's paid the slightest attention to American politics in the past 5 years could even entertain this idea, much less conclude it's going to happen.

She's already said she's leaving Sec State....and I wouldn't be surprised if she'll use the time off to get ready for a 2012 run if there appears to be a solid chance she'd get the nomination. But no, no way in hell she's on the ticket this year. Obama would never ask, and she'd never accept. And that doesn't even take into consideration the complete lack of necessity for such a move.

2011-12-29 10:43:47 AM
I know some people have been saying this since Hillary took the SecState post, but it's not going to happen.

2011-12-29 10:44:14 AM
I doubt it.

What? They endlessly criticize her and Obama's foreign policy.

2011-12-29 10:44:49 AM
I think the bigger point is that assuming Hillary steps down as SecState (as most of them do after 4 years), she needs a position that keeps in the national spotlight if she's going to take a run at 2016.

2011-12-29 10:45:33 AM
Shaggy_C: Hillary has upped her stock

She upped her stock, so why don't you up yours?

/old, easy joke

Biden was the safe choice for Obama in '08, and sticking with him is the safe choice now.

Plus, Hillary's approval ratings are higher than anyone in the administration. Being SOS lets her support Obama's positions as a civil servant, rather than as a ticket mate. In 2016, she'll be clear to blast every decision she didn't agree with, since her job didn't include selling it to the public as though it were her own.

An Obama-Clinton ticket is just masturbatory fodder for the professional left.

2011-12-29 10:47:17 AM
HotWingConspiracy: What? They endlessly criticize her and Obama's foreign policy.

The concern a few years ago is that independents would be turned off because of Republican attacks. I think she's done more than enough now to stave those off; she's actually received a higher popularity than almost every other member of the government, including Bammy himself. Unless you're somehow suggesting that Republicans would vote for the D side of the ticket if she weren't on it...which isn't going to happen. The important piece is getting the I's, and she is in good graces with them.

republicans will never vote for the black guy anyway. and though the men hate hillary, i wouldn't be surprised if more than a few million republican wives voted for her in the privacy of the voting booth.

2011-12-29 10:48:40 AM
That's a pretty weird combo. We would be dealing with another four years of the party of "No" having another long winded temper tantrum because they didn't get their way.

2011-12-29 10:48:53 AM
they've been jerking off to this ticket since before he was elected. Get over it, it ain't gonna happen. If anything Hilary retires after 2012.

Joe Biden in charge of important things as Secretary of State?

Please, no. At least as VP he can't screw too much up.

2011-12-29 10:49:18 AM
Hello no. As a Republican, I wouldn't vote for them and I'm think of voting for Obama next year.

I think some former Democratic governor (not Corzine) or a current one would be ok. Still I think Biden is not a bad guy, IMO.

2011-12-29 10:51:18 AM
Lou Brown: They should do it for the lulz. Can you imagine if the Democrats did that and the Republicans had a Gingrich/Bachmann ticket? It would be pure entertainment.

That would be kind of awesome, if only for entertainment purposes. Lots of angles to play off of there.

Obama and Gingrich are both former professors. Gingrich is an adulterer, Hillary is a victim of adultery. Obama and Bachmann represent the ideological extremes of the Left/Right spectrum (in the narrative, not reality). Hillary gets accused of being a lesbian, Bachmann gets accused of marrying a gay man.

It would be quite the circus. Now we just need the bread.

2011-12-29 10:51:20 AM
Didn't Biden just recently not rule out a run at the White House in '16? I highly doubt he steps down unless pushed

Not necessarily. Having an electable VP isn't a recipe for a win, and having an open ticket isn't a recipe for a defeat either. Especially recently. And you can groom a successor in a role other than VP. In fact, you could argue there are a number of Cabinet positions better suited for the role than VP.

Peter von Nostrand: Didn't Biden just recently not rule out a run at the White House in '16? I highly doubt he steps down unless pushed

That would be a mistake. I don't think Biden is electable.

Rodrigo Hernandez: Joe Biden in charge of important things as Secretary of State?

Please, no. At least as VP he can't screw too much up.

Biden was added to the ticket largely because of his experience regarding foreign relations. That's his thing. He may be a bit of a goofball, but it's safe to say he'd be a good Secretary of State.

Peter von Nostrand: Didn't Biden just recently not rule out a run at the White House in '16? I highly doubt he steps down unless pushed

He didn't rule it out, but I think that was more an instinctual political reaction to never rule out anything rather than part of a thought out intent to actually run in 2016. Plus, you don't typically want the sitting VP to say "I don't want to be President" while still in his first term when his primary job is to do just that in the event something happens to the President in the next 4-5 years.

DarnoKonrad: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: she's going to take a run at 2016.

I said "*if*. I'm 50/50 on it. She'd definitely have a good shot at winning the nomination, but she'd be 69 (77 at the end of two potential terms) and is already a polarizing figure. With her family already spending 24 years on the national stage, they may want to fade into the background.

2011-12-29 11:01:53 AM
I see the GOP is still a little miffed that the Democrats didn't follow their script and nominate Hillary. They still have a lot of artillery for the Clintons, and no target. Of course, some one-dimensional GOP think tank believes that all they have to do is sow the seeds and the Democrats will split the party to get Hillary on the ticket. Of course their fatal flaw, as always, is thinking that the rest of us are as dumb as their base.

2011-12-29 11:02:13 AM
This will go well with the Jeb and Neil ticket that will sweep the GOP convention.

Obama/Clinton vs. Bush/Bush: Because fark you, Mayans!

We should have a whole Congress and White House made up of Bushes and Clintons. All you have to do is prove that you have at least 1/8th blood.

I dunno. Associating anyone "electable" in the GOP with Bush's second term would be a quick trip to the "unelectable" category.

Biden the senior Senator from Delaware is probably not electable, but Biden the sitting Vice President does change that a bit; he'd have national name recognition, and a clear edge with the national party and a head start in fundraising. He's always wanted the big chair, and he'd be able to run on Obama's record without the downside of actually being Barack Obama.

2011-12-29 11:24:24 AM
That's pretty shrewd, actually.
Hillary would lock it down for Obama and he needs that insurance.

/Sorry, still won't be voting for him, though.

GardenWeasel: NO.

Obama/Warren please

I think she's too radical for Obama's comfort.

2011-12-29 11:26:42 AM
If they do this it will reek of desperation and look bad. Also, although Biden certainly has the background and foreign policy credentials for State, I don't think I want his mouth anywhere closer to the nation's diplomatic apparatus than it already is.

Not a chance. Warren is a little too 99% for the establishment Ds to ever get behind.

Why don't they just tell us who is going to be president, so we can relax?
