If only republican hero George Bush were still president we wouldn't have these problems.

"It's about building relationships," said Gerald Rafshoon, a television producer who was President Jimmy Carter's communications director. "Some people are saying he's a recluse. You don't want that reputation. He needs to show that he likes people."

He likes people fine. Maybe he just doesn't like Washington insiders. Which seems to be one of the things the GOP candidates are campaigning against.

That just proves that Wrongbongo can't do anything right! Impeach!

No matter what Obama does, it's worthy of an attack from the GOP echo chamber. He could cure cancer and they would biatch that he is harming the companies that make chemotherapy drugs.

Pretty much; at the same time, it's a plus for him since it makes Obama look like the only adult in Washington.

I wouldn't take my kids out on vacation if they painted all over the furniture, threw bricks through the windows, and raped the dog.

I don't see why Obama should take legislators to special places if they constantly act up.

Oh come on, people. I'm a huge fan who voted for him, is proud of him and will unquestionably vote for him again. And I'm white. Please stop saying that every single criticism is "because he's black". It's really annoying to the overwhelming majority of us who don't effing care what color he is.

It's mostly the reaction we have when people have bogus criticisms. If someone were to say "Obama can't eat coal and shiat diamonds" I'm inclined to suspect their dislike of him is motivated by something other than his inability to shiat diamonds.

Not only that, but it's fodder for radio hosts and the people who listen to them. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard conservatives at work say in that hideous tone of voice they use, "Well, god forbid someone criticize the President! We must be racist," I'd have... at least twenty cents. But I'd still be annoyed.

"People" have bogus criticisms of "people" all the time. It's actually a hell of a lot more flattering to him that they dislike him for what he does and what he stands for. Think about it -- he's being judged for the content of his character and not the color of his skin.

Considering both the content of his character and the color of his skin, neither reason for criticism reflects well on his detractors.

A bad Twilight Zone episode was sappy, corny, and family friendly. A good Twilight Zone episode had nazis, irrationally terrified townspeople who initially seemed nice and normal, freaky weather events, and puppets. Creepy puppets. Rod Serling would be humbled at the bassackwardness of our current government. Or he would have just quit TZ completely after paperclipgate.

"He doesn't seem to relish, or even like, having politicians around." Yeah, neither do I and a lot of other Americans likely feel the same way. Congress has an incredibly low approval rating for a reason. We've put people in charge who are not only manifestly irresponsible but nauseating creeps.

Maybe these politicians and the geniuses at the New York Times (and the rest of the media, for that matter) could look for a better answer to the question "Why the president doesn't care to hear from anybody in Congress" beyond playing the bogus "He Has No Emotions" card.

Here's a thought: Maybe it's because most of the crap coming out of the mouths of everybody in Washington isn't worth hearing in the first place.

None of those commenters say that every criticism is because Obama is black. The "we get it, he's black" comment is generally in reference to a criticism of Obama that makes no sense, or over something that previous presidents have not been singled out for. But I have never heard anyone claim that "every single criticism" of Obama is because he is black. And neither have you.

Did you not mean to be taken literally when you claimed that posters were saying "every single criticism" of Obama was because he is black? Then it shouldn't surprise you to know that people who say "We get it, he's black" don't necessarily mean to be taken literally either.

Different people have different expectations of Barack Obama as president. Some will be upset that he isn't glad-handing and schmoozing, some will be upset that he is glad-handing and schmoozing. Being upset that you can't please everyone makes about as much sense as labeling the opposition party as hypocrites for having differing individual opinions.
