I live in the tourist area, right down the street fro SeaWorld. You wouldn't believe the traffic this year. Luckily I know the routes to avoid it all.

No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

I've been there and traffic is no issue... in fact, getting there was a snap...

I think this just proves that I never want to go to Disney World during Christmas ever again. January is a great time however.

Legoland forced to close its gates

Surely that should be "block its gates".

Yesterday Universal Studios Orlando had to turn some folks away because the parks were at max capacity. Said it hasn't happened in almost 10 years or some such.
The traffic is a little crazy, but I am glad to see that folks are out doing things. After all, Orlando would be a lot less busy without Disney, Universal, Sea World, etc.

You live around Williamsburg?

I was at Islands of Adventure during the first week of December. Slowest week of the year for all of the area parks. The Harry Potter experience ride had a wait time of 5-10 minutes. Normally, it's over 2 hours. Good times.

PillsHere: I think this just proves that I never want to go to Disney World during Christmas ever again. January is a great time however.

I was reading about some of the wait times for rides at the Magic Kingdom yesterday. We usually go in the summer and see things like 60 minutes for Space Mountain, but 180 was being reported yesterday.

I made a random trip in October of this year, and it was very nice. June is "too crowded" for my tastes. I can only imagine what it's like this week.

We just got back from WDW on Monday night. We made the mistake of going to MK on Christmas Day. We won't make that mistake again (even when we stay onsite (DVC)).

We arrived on the 18th, and from then until the 22nd, it was great. 23rd, not so much, 24-26th forget it. Weather was warm, so we spent a lot of time swimming -- which was strange as they were playing Christmas music by the pool.

We're headed to Disney World at the end of January. I'm a fan of LEGO and my 3 year old is just starting to get into them, but LEGOLAND is overpriced. For about $15 more you can get into any of the Disney parks, which have far more to do. Same can be said for Sea World, although there seems to be a little more to do there as well.

Oh well... hopefully we'll get to go back at some point when we can afford to splurge a little more.

October is also a decent time, it can be slightly busy with the food and wine fest, but it's nothing compared to summer/Christmas. However, January is like a ghost town. You get a bunch of Brazillians on holiday and that's about it. Of course it's cold and the hours are shorter, but the lines are significantly shorter.

And so it begins (hopefully)
I live about a mile from Legoland and yesterday cypress gardens blvd was a parking lot but it 's a small price to pay for our local economy .
The next couple of years will make or break winter haven, the landings complex is due to start construction and also a huge CSX terminal should start construction next year bringing plenty of much needed jobs.

Yeah, we went to Magic Kingdom yesterday, but didn't stay long. The lines were out of control. You think 180 minutes for a wait on Space Mountain was bad? The FastPass callback time was late January.

What an outrage! Don't these people know that we're in the worst economy since the Great Depression? How dare they go have fun, supporting corporate fat-cats, while bums squat in, occupy and poop in public parks across America...

Lego are in? Is this like pierog? I mean, that's Polish... anyone here know Italian like crazy well?

Not surprising in the least. We were at Caribbean Beach (Disney resort) for the entire day and went paddleboating/watched movies while the usual December sardine can came and went in the parks. For those interested, Disney has a 4-phase park closing system upon reaching certain capacity levels; this year, Magic Kingdom "only" reached Phase 2, but I've been in a Phase 4 in Christmas '04. Not pretty.

Phase 1
Guests with 'Magic Your Way' base tickets, or a '1-Day 1-Park Ticket', Guests without an admission ticket, and Cast Members using Main Gate & Silver Passes will be turned around at the parking lot booths.

Phase 2
Admission is limited to:
Disney Resort Guests (including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and guests arriving by bus from the Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels)
Annual and Premium Annual Passholders
Guests with Hopper tickets coming from another park
Guests re-entering the park
Guests with dining reservations
Magic Kingdom Guests with reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or The Pirates League
Guests using Walt Disney World Resort Transportation will be admitted.

Phase 3
Admission is limited to:
Disney Resort Guests (including the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and guests arriving by bus from the Hotel Plaza Boulevard hotels)
Annual and Premium Annual Passholders
Guests with dining reservations
Magic Kingdom Guests with reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or The Pirates League

Phase 4
Closed to all guests.

I live in Williamsburg as well. Traffic going to and from work (I work at WDW) has been a nightmare. I hid in my office for an extra 30 minutes before trying to leave tonight. Then I stopped at the Village Inn for a waffle dinner... and it was practically empty.

All they need to do to control the crowds in Lego Land is have people take off their shoes.

2011-12-30 12:03:26 AM
I live 5 mins away from this particular LEGO land - it was chaotic - they left out that they blocked all entrances to the park with the local PD and that the open lot next to LEGO land was packed from cars that didn't find parking in its lot but still wanted to attend - needless to say it was madness for the majority of this week.

//good for business
///avoid it by going the back roads
