Well, there's math. Just straight up math always makes for a hilarious and entertaining headline.

"For example you could travel to Samoa and celebrate your birthday and then the next day fly over to American Samoa, arrive yesterday and celebrate all over again. You can have two birthdays, wedding days, anniversaries, graduation parties and more."

Your math may be decent, subby, but you got your geography is a bit off.

Samoa is an independent state (country) and will lose a day when they move the Dateline. (That Chris Hansen, he seems to be everywhere!)

American Samoa is an unincorporated territory of the US and will be left on the same side of the Dateline.

Subby either did not RTFA or comprehend the same. American Samoa is not changing anything, Samoa (Nee Western Samoa) is changing their date affiliation. Two separate countries. (Ex resident of Tafuna, A.S.)

One year ago, I celebrated the arrival of 2011 on Ofu Island, American Samoa:

Ofu is about 60 miles east of Pago Pago. There's no light pollution and you've not seen stars until you've seen stars in the Manu'a Islands. On New Year's Eve, my girlfriend and I drank local beer (Vailima) with some locals while we laid on our backs on the island's disused runway and watched the Milky Way turn through the night.

WHO SAYS THE FAT PEOPLE ARENT GONNA INCREASE THEIR FOOD CONSUMPTION? NOW THAT THEIR STOCK WILL EXPIRE ONE DAY SOONER

But how will this affect their coconut-based technology? Their coconut calendars and coconut time pieces?

/though the headline meant they'd eaten 1/7 of their population.
//'cause they're fat.

To mark the official change of the dateline, Samoa is holding a Public Prayer Service starting at 11 p.m. Dec. 29 with Christmas carols and a performance by the Samoa Police Choir. At 11:30 p.m. Rev. Elder Oka Fauolo, of the National Council of Churches will lead the prayers.

A bunch of religious nutbags. That would explain why the rest of the article just sounds stupid.

So very jealous of you. I was on Tutuila for a month last year and tried my damnedest to get over to Ofu. No luck.

But they're both in the middle east, right?

Samoans are enormous people.
So's yer mom

I've just worked out where all the extra days go.

For every 364 Samoans who get a year older there will be one born on December 30 who will skip a birthday and so become 364 days (a year minus one day) younger.

Hey nice. We did this in August of 1993 when I was living at Kwajalein Atoll.

Kar98: But they're both in the middle east, right?

I worked there for several years, one of the best responses I got when calling FAA regional offices was, "How are things in Somalia?"

My son's high school's entire starting offensive line was either a Samoan or Tongan.

I lived on Tutuillia for almost all of 2009-2010 and I never got to go to Ofu. Was going to go for Thanksgiving 2009 with a bunch of friends, but the plane failed FAA inspection or someshiat, then a few months later the runway was closed for good due to being too short. Ferry was out for longterm maintenance at the time as well.

I've also been to to point at the Western tip of Savai'i, Samoa, which is billed as the last place to see the sunset every day. Weird to think that it's not that anymore.
