Here's hoping she doesn't start spilling her seamen when she starts gaping after a continuous pounding

No, it's just that based on plenty of evidence beforehand, he has cared very little for the safety of his followers in the face of his mission.

See: Whale Wars and the Ady Gil.

I think a whale might be better - possibly even ironic but if Fark has taught me anything it's that no one uses that word correctly.

I'm a little concerned about competency of these folks. The boat in the pic is the scout boat in question and then you see this:

It is expected to take twenty hours to reach the damaged vessel

Twenty hours? It's a scout vessel? What the hell good does scouting do when the main boat is 20 hours away? That little boat bobbing around in the way south Pacific around Antarctica doesn't belong to be 20 minutes away much less 20 hours.

But then again, these idiots have never been able to do much right except demonstrate their buffoonery for Discovery channel. A worthy cause and good intentions doesn't replace experience and competence whether you support what they're doing or not.

Work on a whaling vessel is long and hard for the brave seamen who take their living from the sea. I read Moby Dick my senior year of high school, and I knew that I wanted to hunt the great humpback. So, I packed up my car and drove the 2800 miles to Washington State. Along the way, I purchased harpoons and grabbing hooks and a carbine rifle. I thought I was ready, but when I pulled into the port and began unloading my gear, I was confronted by an angry mob of sightseers. I killed one with the harpoon and mortally wounded another with a hook, but the crowd overtook me and held me until the authorities arrived. I tried to explain my position, but as it turns out, the ship I'd consigned with was actually a whale watching cruise for tourists. They really don't let you hunt the whales anymore. My bad.

I saw the Brigette Bardot when I was vacationing in the Faroe Islands this August. I filmed them with my IPad and one of the guys onboard said, "What is that?" So I guess they'd been at sea for awhile.

The best part of watching "Whale Wars" is seeing how inept and incompetent these clowns are at basic seamanship and boat handling skills. Pure comic gold for anyone with a mariner background. It's like the Three Stooges but there are 50 of them.

Well, this should make at least one episode of Whale Wars interesting.

While I do not support whaling, however this group is nothing short of an incompetent terrorist organization.

Unfortunately, this group's incompetence is going to get someone(s) killed and most likely it is going to be a well meaning, but ignorant (in terms of boating) follower of SS. Hell, I am shocked there haven't been any deaths among the SS volunteers already.

pirate? no .. that's a gross exaggeration

reckless malcontent? absolutely.

to be fair - the last boat of this design (a smaller version) they owned was intentionally rammed by the Japanese - and the Japanese ARE violating international bans on wailing and hiding behind (false) claims that it is scientific research.

personally i think the rest of the naval powers are dropping the ball by not telling the Japanese whaling fleet "next time we catch your ships inside australian territorial waters - particularly the ones that are a designated whale sanctuary - we're going to torpedo you"

Two things: They are pirates. They have a kill-count of whaling ships they have sunk.

Secondly: The Ady Gil was not intentionally rammed. If anything, they intentionally gunned their engine so they would be rammed.

tossing stink bombs and using water cannons doesn't constitute "violent attacks". boarding them with no hostile intent also doesn't constitute piracy.

the former (tossing stink bombs) is just being irritating - and hey more power to them in that.
the later, while moronic, doesn't constitute theft of a violent attack and therefore doesn't constitute piracy.

It most certainly does. If they are not invited, it is no different than someone kicking in the door to your house. I don't give a good god damn if they are there to sink it or serve tofu and shame sandwiches topped with veganaise, if they are not invited, and they are on someone else's boat, they have boarded it, and that is piracy.

just to be clear on what i think - before i get hurr durred at

Paul Watson: reckless malcontent. the acts he instructs them to do constitute vandalism. he does bring on many kids who are not qualified to be operating boats in the antarctic, and that's going to get some one killed
The Japanese Whaling fleet: organized and willful violation of international ban on whaling, thinly veiled behind false claims of "Scientific research"

both sides are douche bags, and fights between douchebags are always amusing. when the "Sea Shepard" fleet lands some stink bombs in the factory boats processing deck - they're denying criminals the profits for their crime.

how about we tell both fleets "we catch your either of those asses in the whaling grounds then we're going to seize your boat and arrest your crew".

I consider Paul Watson the David Koresh of the seas. Sooner or later he is going to just say to hell with it all and light his boat on fire. That Whale Wars season finale might pull better numbers than the Super Bowl.

no.

Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea. The term can include acts committed on land, in the air, or in other major bodies of water or on a shore. It does not normally include crimes committed against persons traveling on the same vessel as the perpetrator (e.g. one passenger stealing from others on the same vessel). The term has been used to refer to raids across land borders by non-state agents.

---------------------------

Citing the United States Supreme Court decision in the year 1820 case of United States v. Smith,[120] a U.S. District Court ruled in 2010 in the case of United States v. Said that the definition of piracy under section 1651 is confined to "robbery at sea." The piracy charges (but not other serious federal charges) against the defendants in the Said case were dismissed by the Court.[121]

---------------------------

Article 101

Definition of piracy

Piracy consists of any of the following acts:

(a) any illegal acts of violence or detention, or any act of depredation, committed for private ends by the crew or the passengers of a private ship or a private aircraft, and directed-

(i) on the high seas, against another ship or aircraft, or against persons or property on board such ship or aircraft;
(ii) against a ship, aircraft, persons or property in a place outside the jurisdiction of any State;

(b) any act of voluntary participation in the operation of a ship or of an aircraft with knowledge of facts making it a pirate ship or aircraft;
(c) any act of inciting or of intentionally facilitating an act described in subparagraph (a) or (b).

Article 102

Piracy by a warship, government ship or government aircraft whose crew has mutinied

The acts of piracy, as defined in article 101, committed by a warship, government ship or government aircraft whose crew has mutinied and taken control of the ship or aircraft are assimilated to acts committed by a private ship or aircraft.
Article 103

Definition of a pirate ship or aircraft

A ship or aircraft is considered a pirate ship or aircraft if it is intended by the persons in dominant control to be used for the purpose of committing one of the acts referred to in article 101. The same applies if the ship or aircraft has been used to commit any such act, so long as it remains under the control of the persons guilty of that act.[124]
