How is it that I can dislike the majority of the songs that comprise that music video, and yet still really like that music video?

It's a sad state of affairs when you can mix that many songs into one coherent (I guess) song. Music shouldn't sound alike ...

Now get off mah lawn, youngsters!

Who was the woman in the loud pink shirt around 0:45? I don't track pop or videos. The only songs I recognize from the list are the two by Adele and "Pumped Up Kicks."

Katy Perry?

Has anyone done this with real music?

Much better than 2010's mix, which was awful. I'd even say this one is a bit better than 2009 which was pretty damn good.

Other than the Adele, LMFAO and Foster the People I don't think I've heard any of those songs all the way through.

2011-12-29 01:39:32 PM
Mixing Adele into this clusterfark should be criminal.

2011-12-29 02:07:44 PM
2009 is still the best, but this one is probably second.

He couldn't throw a "Friday, Friday" in there somewhere?

Came in to say the same actually. But I dunno, I think I still like 2009's the best of them all. Tied all the songs together the best, especially in the chorus.

I disagree. I felt that 2009 and 2010 were really good, but 2011 was...lacking something.
Talented artist, but the source material is really flat.

Also, I was spoiled by this earlier this year... (new window)

Behold---the power of pop music.

I giggled and shuddered at the same time. My daughter has been practicing her wiggle, wiggle, wiggle until she could wiggle that fast.

\His little willy wiggling cannot be unseen.

\\The goggles, they do nothing.

Some of those songs get twisted pretty far from their source material, but yeah, pop music is pretty homogenous these days.

Thought this one was better than 2010's version.

Whoa a metric assload of editing right there.

2011-12-29 05:59:21 PM
i coudlnt make it more then about 35 seconds... that.. that was just a huge pile of auto tuned crap.
this also reminds me why my radio never leaves the classic rock stations.

I think it was just easier songs to string together. 2009/2011 are more dance, while 2010 had a lot of varied vocals, tougher to meld together

I take a preference to 2008 myself, but this guy is just pure talent all around. Bookings must be expensive to get him.

there in-lies the mash-up talent. (Lobsterdust and Earworm are good friends)
Try this one out (new window)...note the totally different genres and time-of release.

You don't want to show up the "talent".

Mash-ups are fun, but mash-ups with more than 3 or 4 artists usually suck because they're far too forced.

Best mash-up from recent memory.

Mash-ups that are rapped verses plus sung lyrics are very common and fun, but not exactly artistic masterpieces. The Hendrix/Jay-Z one is probably the best.

2011-12-30 12:57:06 AM
The Kleptones.
I've yet to hear anything better.

Jaydiohead disagrees with you. (new window)

Seriously, someone put together a full album of Jay-Z/Radiohead mashups.

Love Earworm, and I think is a really well done mix. Unfortunately the majority of the source material is absolutely horrible auto tuned bullshiat. To the extent the couple of actual singers (e.g. Lady Gaga) stood out like sore thumbs. And why did he auto tune singers who weren't auto tuned in the original (Adele, Cee Lo)? WTF, man.

I can't even listen to 2010 because the auto tuning literally hurt my ears. This year is not quite so bad but still bloody horrible.

It would be awesome to have an un-auto-tune app or something to run music through. Cannot wait until this fad is over.

/Also, is the singer in Maroon 5 deliberately turning into Iggy Pop?

Just throwing this one out there...

As usual, I didn't recognize 80% of the songs in this yearly thing.

groovykindahate: Just throwing this one out there...

Ok, didn't much like that one, but it did lead me to this, which I had forgotten existed.

/beware, not mash-up related

FTA: the artists being mashed run the gamut from rock to rap to Rihanna

No, no they don't.

I don't see one legitimate rock artist on there. It's all pop to me.

2009 is my favourite of his USOP series, and heck even 2008 is pretty good too - this one and last year's have been awful, to the point where I couldn't even finish a single listen of this year's.

/not a thing against Earworm, but the last 12 months of mainstream music has been particularly awful.
