Bob16: We tried something like 150 different ways to kill Castro.

We're doing it wrong.

2011-12-29 09:42:20 AM

way south: Our Chucklefarks wouldn't have a hope at doing something this slick.

The "Castro" effect.

If a foreign "radical" leader dies under mysterious circumstances, then under the assumption that it was an assassination, by the nature of it being successful alone it was not perpetrated by the United States.

Here I was hoping for some pics of wayward Venezuelan women who need saving from the regime. Ah well, the day is still young...

Come to think of it, that might be pretty awesome.

"I don't know. I'm just putting the thought out there," Chavez said.

To be fair, that's almost precisely the sort of qualification your average right wing nutjob (see just about any pundit featured past, present or future on Fox News) weakly offers shortly after saying something dubious to further their "platform"- particularly when they know how massively moronic it really is.

Wouldn't it be strange if Obama's birth certificate were fake? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to say anything rash, but I'm just putting out thought here...

People are asking why "we" hate Chavez so much? I'ma go with: "familiarity breeds contempt".

Or, in layman's terms, he stole our best dumbfarkery.

2011-12-29 09:45:25 AM

GreatBunzinni: Frank N Stein: Well there's that, plus the human rights violations....

Can you actually cite any example of these so called human rights violations? The only accusation that has been covered in a remotely serious news source is a US watchdog's vague and silly complains about promises being betrayed.

So, do you actually have any basis for your assertions or are you simply reiterating your government's anti-Chavez propaganda, right out of your ass?

I've spoken to people from Venezuala. That's more credible than any news source...to me, anyway (obviously it means nothing to anyone else).

Which makes one wonder whether he's actually had chemotherapy, or he just shaved his head for this publicity stunt. I know folks who have been through or are on chemo. It's pretty much a package deal with serious weight loss. Count on it.

Judging by my favorites list, one of those would be...maq0r?

Ah, yes. Thank you.

Pardon me for forgetting your name, maq0r. I had not added you to my favorites list, and it had been a while since the last Chavez thread. That delinquency has been rectified.

Man, cancer is so 20th century. If the US did it, it would have to involve 1) nanotech; 2) drones; or 3) GMO (probably flesh-eating bacteria). Since dealing with carcinogens sounds about as futuristic as "sonic" technology, we didn't do it.

/Oh yeah, and you're old, fat and haven't lived a very healthy life. Wonder how you could have EVER gotten cancer.

2011-12-29 09:51:52 AM

bravian: Bob16: We tried something like 150 different ways to kill Castro. So that "proves" what a peaceful country we are and that we would never try to kill leaders.

And of course a half million dead Iraqis killed for no reason is also proof of how non violent america is too.

I just can't figure out why anybody would not trust america.

Its rather really really really hard to knock off someone you don't like - especially without getting caught. Which further gives proof that Chavez's sensationalist idiotic claims are completely bullshiat.

/but people will buy into it anyway

Bwahahahaha

and then you top it off with "people will buy into it"

You really don't know anything about history. Even LBJ said we were running a Murder Incorporated to knock off leaders we didn't like

not to feed the trolls or anything...
But are you really this dumb?

He's probably as dumb as someone who will talk about human rights abuse in Venezuela, Iran and North Korea, but fall strangely silent about them in places like Nigeria or Angola or Liberia or Saudi Arabia or other countries where we make nice fat profits or get the stuff we need. Or maybe not fall silent but change the tune to, "Oh please stop with your tree-hugging do-gooderism and grow up, we need to focus on America's strategic interests" or maybe to, "Hey it's better than letting the Islamists get in with Sharia, then those people would really have it bad."

He's probably as dumb as someone who would instantly change their opinions on Venezuela's human rights status the second Chavez was replaced by someone who said nice things about the US, regardless of what was going on within Venezuela. As dumb as someone who didn't have anything to say about human rights abuses, and enormous drug trafficking, in Panama until Bush I decided that Noriega had been installed and propped up by the US government long enough, and had gone almost overnight from "valued American ally in the fight against global communism" to "terrible drug dealer who violates the human rights of his citizens."

It all started when he rightly began asking questions about what Bush knew of 9/11. He's gone off of the reservation a little since, but claiming he's one of the "dangerous dictators" is ridiculous.

All of the Bautista supporting (in theory) Cuban exiles have kind of ruined the "first hand evidence" rule for me.

But Chavez is an enemy of free speech and free press, that seems pretty clear. Isn't that enough to condemn him for?

Yes. Because that's what this article is about.
our hatred for HIM. It's really showing how silly WE are.

I'd say these two replies have it exactly right. The U.S. doesn't give a flying fark about Chavez, but Chavez likes to complain that the U.S. is out to get him. Inventing foreign enemies to gain domestic support is pretty much a universal phenomenon. In reality, Chavez is nothing more than a harmless blowhard on the international stage; he's not doing anything to us and we're not doing anything to him. He needs us to buy up all of that delicious Citgo gas, he knows it, and we know he knows it. The U.S. is already doing as much STFU-ing as it can.

Sounds like Chavez would be a great fit as a blonde-haired bobblehead at Fox News.

It's a historical thing. US & Venezuela used to be actually BFF but then Venezuela started to sell their oil to China and things went into the shiatter since. Mostly, it's America that's done the pulling back from the formerly good relationship.

The fact that you are unable to find any basis for those pathetic "human rights violations" accusations and instead preferred to throw insults around is a nice way to prove my point.

While you are wasting your time putting up strawmen and throwing personal insults around, let's forget that no one has yet pointed a single evidence that Chavez and his government are responsible for anything remotely related to human rights violations. Just keep knee-jerking and putting up strawmen and eventually no one will remember that those are baseless accusations which amount to nothing more than cheap anti-Chavez propaganda.

Okay, do you trust Amnesty International, or do you think that's part of the corporate-controlled right wing propaganda machine too? Download either PDF or HTML version (new window). They do one of these every year. Although frankly it's almost beside the point with respect to his relationship with the U.S., which is what this thread is supposed to be about.
