Don't expect any love for Castle of Fu Manchu either

El Mariachi is one movie everyone should see. I think this and Desperado are good in their own way, but in the original the guy looks like any other person and not some Mexican Action Hero like Banderas looks.

You'll have to wait until 2016. NFR rules state the film must be at least 10 years old

Should be in on 1st ballot though.

If you drink, and every now and then think you drink too much and/or should stop, but don't, rent The Lost Weekend. And/or read the book.

How in Satan's glorious name did it take this long for The Kid to be added to the Registry?

When I was about 7 years old I was spending the weekend with my grandmother. While she made dinner she let me watch TV and I turned this on. She was very upset and made me promise not to tell my mother. I still don't see what the big deal was. Loser drinks to much, has to sell typewriter to buy booze. The message seemed pretty clear to me.

Glad to see The Iron Horse getting some love. It's the first real John Ford movie in terms of style.

I saw Forrest Gump in preview. It made me stabby.

Thought it was horrible and that no one would ever want to pay to see it.

Guess history proved me wrong, but my opinion still stands.

The polar opposite of mine, cool.

/Titanic at least had good production values
//and Kate Winslet's boobies
///actually just one boobie but I can extrapolate

I hated Forrest and loved Titanic so I am thinking polar agreement. Polar Express was awful, though.

According to Wikipedia, "12 Angry Men" was filmed in 1957, but only added to the Registry in 2007. What took them so long? Or was it retrospective based on current events in 2007?

And if that's the case then this registry is just propaganda.

2011-12-28 11:08:42 PM
And yes, I realize they didn't wait 50 years, but it was 9 years into the Act.

I was told there'd be no math.

Seems like it would have been a shoo-in the moment they dreamed up this crazy National Film Preservation Act.

I was actually briefly annoyed when I saw that was listed as a "classic film" on the news. That movie blows 17 syphilitic goats simultaneously.

Has anyone watched Bambi as an adult? Holy crap - it beats the shiat out of you...seeing Bambi's dad step through the flurries after the mom was shot is farking intense. It perfectly captures everything that is terrifying about fathers to kids.

Yep, another reason I like you.

Even though she made me uncomfortable playing me in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". I have embraced the movie, but the first time, it made me insane and I didn't know why until someone said "uh,.. Clementine is you."

THIS.

We caught it on video after the fellating crowd had been going on for months about how it was the most awesome movie of all time. When we finished it, my wife and I looked at each other and were like "did we watch the same movie everybody else did because that sucked".

It's a trip down Boomer nostalgia lane, A guy happens to be present (as many of them seem to claim) at every cultural touchstone of the 60s and 70s.
