yeah but what's the resell value on that? IF the game is a big hit and after he gets bored with it he will have a nice little pay day.

Say...just what kind of game is this!?

Just for the sake of context, $16,000 is more money than the average person makes in China in a year. I'm guessing this guy is either the kid of an industrialist or banker or the kid of a princeling.

Wife-ful justification. "Honey, see, *this* is a REAL gun. Just look at this foolish Chinaman who spent WAY more money on a FAKE weapon".

/...not the preferred nomenclature, I know

There's probably no resale value. It'd surely be bind on pickup/soulbound.

I live in Atlanta--the laws are pretty 2nd-amendment friendly 'round here, but I've still never actually seen an SBR and/or full-auto version actually for sale :)

The scariest part for me is I own an knitted afghan almost exactly the same pattern and colors as the sitting dude. Had it since I was 5. it's 38 years old and still as bright as the thing the guy in the add is wearing.

Have "It's made available by the devs" Pay-To-Win MMO games really taken off in America yet like they have elsewhere?

I am obviously not including gold buying in WoW, or any Farmville-type games.

I mean like it's free, but if you want to actually beat Uber Boss X or Superduper Player Z, you'll have to pony up some cash. Sure, there is an item that will make you just as powerful with a 1/1,000,000 chance of dropping, but wouldn't you rather just spend $1.00 to buy that item instead? I mean, that's what Superduper Player Z did.

Well, that's communism for ya...

you have your choice between 3 real dolls, or a virtual item that you can use for 20 levels before you find a drop that is way better...

YOU DECIDE!

The scheme is called free to play (as opposed to pay to play), and yes, it's taken off quite huge. City of Heros/Villians, DC Universe online, Lord of the rings online...uh, that shooter MMO thing that just got re-released....D&D online, and more, all use it. And at least for LOTRO and DCUO, the games went from 'we're turning them off next week' levels of fail to super mega employee of the year levels of income generation.

It's so noticable that most games are planning a transition of some type to, if not flat out pay to win type scenarios, pay to have a better 'standard of living' type scenario (on top of a monthly fee). WoW in fact does this already, with purchasable BOA items, like the flying unicorn mount, barbershop stuff, etc. It's DLC for an MMO without even needing to fake an Expac for more cash.

There's a lot of browser games where you won't get anywhere near the top players without dropping some $$ here and there. Or 3 months rent.

/I'm looking at YOU Travian....
