Damon Lindelof? The guy responsible for this?

The short, nerdy Jewish dude who wished he was tall, strong, Christian Jack and kept the most boring character on the show around, even though he was supposed to get killed off in the fourth episode? That guy?

Having Lindelof ejected in to the cold, airless vacuum of space from a point near the Kuiper Belt still would be merciful.

Let's see, same derelict alien ship, pods that open when discovered and a title that's revealed in exactly the same way as the original movie?

Nope, no connection whatsoever...

Its really not that complicated a concept. It takes place in the same overall "universe" as the original Alien movies. It seems like it probably takes place before Alien chronologically. In that sense it is a "prequel" except it really isn't, because it isn't a direct tie-in to the original movie, and that is what people think when they think of prequels. Not sure why the entertainment media keeps writing about this like it is some giant mystery or something. I just blame it on the fact that most entertainment reporters are generally farking morons.

this. I'm amazed at how many people don't see the connection. How it connects is another thing entirely, though. I'm much more excited about this film now than I was when it was first announced.

Hopefully it's actually Ridley being Ridley, and not giving us crap again like Hannibal.

The one thing that worries me is that everything looks too @&*&# clean. Loved the Nostromo in the first film; technology being difficult, unfriendly, etc. etc. Total form following function.

And really, really hoping Ridley hasn't hit the RETCON button as hard as he can.

One Bad Apple: After seeing the trailer how can it not be ? I saw a facehugger, the derelict horseshoe ship and even the space jockey.

I didn't watch the trailer again but was it a true facehugger or was it a precursor to one? It looked more translucent and less defined to me. Then again, I only had 3 hours of sleep.

I'm at a loss as to why Scott wanted to go back over this territory after all these years.

Found a link years ago on the model of the original derelict ship. Someone had pulled it out of the box and was in the process of restoring it. Never did find out if they ever finished it or not.

On the other hand someone has restored the Nostromo...

I dunno, I kinda liked the idea. And having read it and then seen the trailer, it's pretty easy to see how a lot of the trailer possibly matches up with the spoiler storyline. I wouldn't be heartbroken if that's what the story turns out to be, provided that it's filmed well.

It is a direct prequel. But apparently people are too stupid to understand that a prequel (or sequel) to a story already told doesn't necessarily have to have any of the same actors, actresses, or protagonists. This is the story that led to the events in ALIEN. Simple, really.

And It's more than just the universe, as it's pretty apparent they're on freaking LV426 that we see in ALIENS. The last shot will be them activating the SOS warning beacon to stay away. The same one mother picks up and Ripply partial decoded before shiat hit the fan in ALIEN.

How we get there will either be awesome, or a huge flop.

For some reason I'm thinking Ridley and Lindelof have read the Hyperion Cantos. Something tells me these "gods" are traveling backwards in time, and the crew and science vessel we see is actually dated after ALIENS. But their meddling paradox creates the situation in ALIEN.

Seemed Simmons ripped off the Shrike from ALIEN, so it's only fitting Lindelof rips off the time tombs. And thats a good thing if done right.

It'll probably be more of "sequel/prequel" than Soldier was to Blade Runner.

Just always felt like it was meant to be one, with an additional set of arms. The combination of metal and organic, the sneaking ability, being a killer. It was the first image that came to my mind when I started reading the books.

Just watched ALIEN last night again, funny enough, and there's shots when they're approaching the derelict where the storm clears and you can see high clouds and the gas giant and moons. It looks more dusk / night, but apparently those are a few shots where it might be clearer than we saw for most of the two flicks. Weird thing is once Kane takes it, and they're trying to get him back to the Nos, the storm is back. My guess is it's a continuity error brought on by the shooting scheduled and budget, even if it can just be explained away as the storm flaring back up.

Anyways, that's why I'm thinking the ship explosion and crash of the derelict might have actually happened post ALIENS. If the ship itself is traveling back in time ala the time tombs it would explain LV426 looking almost terraformed, and the newer looking technology.

But while cool that's going to lose a lot of people, not because it's not done well, or bad, but because they simply won't understand paradoxes.

I just assumed that something happens in the new movie that leads to the planet being all farked up by the time we get to Alien.

2011-12-28 06:47:37 PM
The original plot for Alien had one minor difference.

Instead of a derelict ship when the storm clears on the planet they see a pyramid. As they go to investigate they find alien hieroglyphics all over the tomb. As Kane is lowered down to one of the deeper chambers he finds the eggs... which picks right back up with the original movie.

Yeah, Alien-verse, for sure.

But a pretty but naff teaser trailer really. I know it's a teaser, but I'm wanting to be tickled by some fricking ALIENS, dammit. I don't want people just faffing about having discussions about what they've discovered on some planet. Fricking ALIENS, bastigates!

I think he means the loud foghornesque sound that's at the start rather than the weird screechy sound that's identifiably from the ALIEN(S) universe.

The Inception thing and the trailer to the new Dark Knight Rises has that similar sound.

I think that's what he means. I could be wrong, of course.

Thats the sad thing. ALIEN/Scott did it first, and brought it back; but it's being labeled as the poser because even MI4 has freaking used it.

Also, Inception was just meh and not very deep at all. And the people that found it hard to follow have to be close to functionally retarded.

Yes, that's what I mean. Variations on it include the alarm horn on the Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailers, and the specific mockery thereof in one of the Smurfs ads. A repetitive, usually low-pitched blast, often accompanying a scene cut. It's been in almost every genre movie trailer for more than a year now.

you're obviously too stupid to get it because they explained everything:

1. They reunited so they could go into the afterlife together, but it's not purgatory.
2. Locke moved the island into the '70s. What part don't you get? What do you think happens when you move an island?
3. Jacob has superpowers because the island has a lightsource sealed by a cork.
4. The whispers are the souls of dead people, and they are activated by the footsteps of the Others.

It all fits together if you pay attention.

/still bitter.
