The wireless providers in the US all suck ass.
Honestly, I'd like to see Google say "fark it", and start up a wireless provider. They've already got fiber everywhere. They just need to build towers. It would be enormously expensive, but if they did a "$50/month, unlimited texts, unlimited domestic calls, unlimited data" plan, they'd take over the entire market.
It's not that I trust Google all that much, but I trust them FAR more than any other wireless/phone company. And Google doesn't need to screw their customers to make money. They just want you to see their advertisements. I can live with that.

FTA :
AT&T addressed both concerns by promising to bring back 5,000 call center jobs from overseas, and rumors suggested the carrier was considering to sell off as much as $8 billion in assets to other companies.
Man, that still pisses me off. Baiting them with "We'll bring back stuff we have outsourced if you greenlight this. It's the best for the U.S. Really."

Government would stifle them, for much the same reason government stifled the AT&T/T-Mobile "merger." And delayed the DTV transition.

They'd suck just as bad as any of the others. It might take a few years, but they'd get to that point. Or just shut down the service. Or buy one of the other providers, and roll the customer base into the legacy carrier's brand. Any of the above.
That said, Sprint might be past the point of rescue.

We need Orange and O2 to come here and compete with AT+T. Why are cell companies better overseas?

i have Verizon, and I'm happy with it. If you do business with AT&T, you deserve what you get, because you are stupid, and everything is your own fault. And I hate you and hope you die of chlamydia.

Because, by and large, they weren't started by the original landline telephone
companies and thus were formed to actually compete for business, rather than
collude to screw the consumer.

At&t and Verizon prices are nearly the same. I sticking with At&t because they have the phones I want(WP).

Of course Verizon gave their blessings.
They're always one step away from re-establishing the old.

Except in the wireless realm, Verizon isn't the controlling partner in Verizon Wireless.
Next?
/They're switching away from CDMA not because of Verizon or Qualcomm
//Big daddy Vodafone told them to
/Your pretty flowchart also doesn't depict the spectacular failure that was WorldCom; yes, it's part of Verizon now, but it was pretty much smoldering scraps by the time they got it

You'd think AT&T would learn after the last time the Feds broke them up.
/they DID break them up, right?

as a current Orange customer, I want to know what the hell you are smoking with this comment. I have trouble accessing 3G data in the city center of Paris, forget about rural areas!

A year ago, I had 2 cell phones (spouse and me), 2 landlines (work and home), and 2 DSL lines (work and home) with ATT. Other than the DSL sucking and the several dropped calls a day it all basically sucked really hard. Plus I was getting 5 different bills for all of this, even though it was the same goddamn company. Second problem was they started farking with me. It took a few months, but I rid myself of every one of these accounts, mostly going Sprint and Comcast. They have 24/7 english speaking CSRs who don't lie to you and hang up on you, so that's a plus. And now I have fewer total bills and pay less money for faster internet and no dropped calls. Bizarre.
At&t - y u no go bankrupt?

Its better than other companies are doing, like verizon for instance.
The DOJ is farking bullshiat since they are only fighting against something that will eventually happen, they let lobbyists from verizon/sprint buy their support but somehow all of you view this as a good thing. Oh and the deal is not completely dead, its still be looked at behind the scenes, besides ATT got the spectrum it wanted anyway, that was all they wanted from this deal and what others fought so hard to stop them from acquiring.

Well the landline side needs to die, they have been subsisting on federal grants to remain profitable for years and now are eating up wireless profits to fund their projects, its bullshiat.
My favorite were some senior PM's/Directors biatching about Uverse and how its draining all of landlines profits, I had to bite my tongue to let them know landlines have been unprofitable for years and if Uverse doesnt succeed then they are all out of a job.
Landlines and their support really suck, their wireless used to be good when it was called Cingular and I am shocked people forgot so quickly how bad Verizon sucked less than 10 years ago, they were the top of shiatty customer service but the hatred for ATT takes over even if their service isnt that bad.
/I have never had a foreigner when dealing with wireless issues
//landline, however...........

Drei (3) is absolutely fantastic.
Incredible mobile data speeds and excellent coverage.
€12/month for unlimited data, 2000min and 2000SMS doesn't hurt either.

Yeah it was awesome.
I liked the part where I lost my job with AT&T because the deal fell through. Best part ever.
