The big mistake is running from a crime scene on an empty stomach and not having something to eat while you wait out the search. It's good to have something to eat while huddled behind the dumpster as the cops go prowling for you.

Actually, I'm not entirely convinced a crime occured. It seems to me, from the article, that he paid with a fifty, which the clerk thought was counterfit; who then went 'in the back' to double check, through some unexplained process/person, finally vanishing entirely with the 50 without so much as a by-your-leave. The guy, after waiting for the counter clerk for a long period of time, without at least getting his fifty back or a food order taken, or at the very least the manager, took 50 dollars from the register and left the mcDonald's to solve their own internal issues.
