Cincinnati Bengals are 6th in defense this year in ypg and don't land anyone from that side of the ball in the pro bowl? Really?

2011-12-28 10:31:50 AM
Mark Sanchez for the Giants defense.

2011-12-28 10:34:43 AM
Carlos Dunlap. Rey Maualuga. Andy Dalton.

And Jerome Simpson should get in based on his last game alone.

D'Qwell Jackson and Joe Haden are probably the only Browns players whom I would consider snubs, but it's whatever because we suck and an extra Pro-Bowler isn't going to change that.

Anton Smith with the 49ers should have been on the list

As a Skins fan, I'm supposed to be up in arms over fletcher. You'll get no argument from me that Willis was a lead pipe lock at MLB. Urlacher is more of a name recognition and reputation pick. But I've of two minds on Fletcher. Sure, he leads LBs in tackles, but that's a misleading statistic. He is a great pure tackler; he doesn't miss tackles and doesn't go for the flashy Sportscenter highlight hit in lieu of a clean, wrap-up tackle. But at the same time, he just happens to be in a good position to make a whole lot of tackles, especially with a porous front three in the 3-4. And here's a stat: in the Skins' losses, Fletcher averages something like 12 tackles, but just 7 in their wins. What does that mean? I have no clue, but it must mean something.

It's been a really shiatty year for AFC quarterbacks. Is there some rule that says they have to pick 3?

Suh, Stafford,

Became the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 400 yards in his debut and has the NFL records for most rushing TDs by a QB (14) and most yards passing for a rookie (3,893).

Why is anyone from the chargers on there? F**k them, they suck. Anyone want to buy tickets to the raiders/chargers game on new years? I'd rather slam my ballsack with a sliding glass door

I have been and remain a huge Newton fan. He will win rookie of the year, withou question. But there are finite slots, and he was outperformed by the three NFC QBs selected. There not being sufficient slots to include everyone who performed well is not a "snub."

Well, they pick three. And he's not better than Brees, Rodgers, E. Manning.

Question: is the Pro Bowl like the MLB All Star Game, where every team must have at least one representitive?

2011-12-28 12:59:37 PM
We live in a world where Dashon Goldson made the pro bowl, but Aldon Smith and Navorro Bowman didn't. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Curtis Painter got screwed.

Morpheses: THIS. I mean, no Aldon Smith? For reals?

I actually think Bowman is the bigger snub. The difference in talent between Bowman and Urlacher is bigger than the difference in talent between Urlacher and any random schlep off the street.

Ok, not really, but Bowman >>>>>>> Urlacher

Hey now, he was great for the Ravens defense too.

More importantly, one of those 3 will be in the superbowl, so he's still got a shot to be in it.

And at least one if not two of those three will skip the Pro Bowl, at which point Cam will get selected.

The Pro Bowl has lost any meaning it once had.

It's amusing how the best part about the Pro Bowl is the day the voting results come out. Then it is all downhill from there.

2011-12-28 01:16:04 PM
Can't figure why so many guys get picked on reputation. Ray Lewis had a pretty crummy year for him and Pouncey is only in his second year and was hurt for several games. I don't think he had a knock-out year in the games he played.

2011-12-28 01:16:19 PM
there their theyre: Romo should have made it over Manning

Statistically, yes. But Eli has been the reason the giants have won several games, and Romo has been a factor in some of their losses.

kronicfeld: I have no clue, but it must mean something.

When the D-line plays well, he doesn't have to pick up as much slack.

Agreed on the Willis. Fletcher's had a better season than Urlacher.

At least the Pro Bowl isn't the BS that is the baseball All Star voting. Playing infield? Hitting .220? Playing for the Yankees or Red Sox? Congratulations on your All Star selection, unless there's a guy somewhere else hitting .320 playing the same position.

Well, then now it has negative meaning.

Actually, I take back what I said about Newton, as he has a pretty good statistical case against Eli. They had almost the exact same combined passing and rushing yards and a comparably completion percentage. However, Manning turned the ball over a couple more times, and Newton combined for about 30% more total TDs than Eli.

Romo has a good case over Eli, too, just as a passer. More TDs, fewer INTs, better completion percentage.

I guess at the end of the day it's more about yards and the perception that Eli is doing more by himself than Romo is.

Conversely Romo is the reason the Cowboys have won several games while Eli has been a factor in some of their losses.

Ints
Romo - 9
Eli - 16

Fumbles - Lost
Romo - 5/2
Eli - 8/4

TDs
Romo - 29
Eli - 26

I have no idea how Manning made it over Stafford. Must be some bias for New York or against Detroit.

I had Tony Romo and Cam Newton for my fantasy quarterbacks this year. Just two of many reasons, I won my league. Pretty consistent high play from both of them throughout the year.

2011-12-28 01:27:57 PM
kronicfeld: I guess at the end of the day it's more about yards and the perception that Eli is doing more by himself than Romo is.

Eli has 3 starting recievers (meaning they'd be #1 or #2 on most any team in the league) and a solid running game.

Romo has 2 splashy (yet injury prone) receivers, a top 3 in the NFL Catching TE, a backup pass catching TE who could start anywhere that they throw the ball to TE's and a sporatic running game.

Cam Newton has Steve Smith and the only example in the league right now of a solid "RB by Comittee" running game.

Seems to me there's a case for all of them really.

2011-12-28 01:28:04 PM
Victor Cruz has 400 more receiving yards, 10 more catches, and only one fewer TD than Greg Jennings.

Just saying.

And played in at least 2 more games than Jennings. The real crime is Jennings over Nelson.
