I patted an elephant once. They smell like armadillos.

It was a youngish female that was on tour to raise money for an elephant sanctuary. No one else was there yet, so I hung around and watched them feed her breakfast, she took a liking to me and the keeper said 'Since she likes you, you can feed and play with her, just don't get under her chin or she'll panic'.

They like having the little hairs on the end of their trunks tickled. At least, she did.

I got to ride bareback on an elephant one time for a circus promotion. You don't realize just how wide those creatures are. It was like doing a split, very uncomfortable.
