Among occupations, "Suicide and body decomposition cleaner-upper" sounds less than appealing.

Says in TFA that they have about 20 jobs a month. That's more than I expected. How many murders and suicides really take place every month in most cities?

Hey, whatever you say about the J-man, he cleaned up after himself after he died. Leaving that shroud behind was kind of unthoughtful though.

There's a movie about this kind of thing with Amy Adams, Emily Blunt (love her) and Alan Arkin. "Sunshine Cleaning". Very cute, funny movie form the producers of "Little Miss Sunshine". I hope they do more Sunshine movies.

At first I read the line like this:
"We deal with hoardings
:
bird droppings, human droppings," Riley explained.
And I thought to myself, 'People actually hoard that stuff?'

When we moved out of our previous house we had to get a company to clean the air conditioning ducts in the floor because a couple of our cats liked to pee down them. They did crime scene and suicide clean-up too. When I apologized for the pee the guy said, "Lady, cat piss is nothing compared to having to peel somebody off a carpet because they decomposed into it." Many CSBs commenced from that point. If you can stand it, there's definitely money to be made in the field.

Heck yeah, I'm glad somebody's out there doing the work.
Sounds like they also clean up old people who died alone and festered a bit.

Probably sponsored the group because the company has a good handel on the problem. Don't forget the Bad News Bears were sponsored by a bail bond company.

A shotgun suicide, for example, can be especially difficult.
"You have to look at every square inch. Things go everywhere," Riley said.
They certainly do.

I deal with death scenes in a Midwestern county, about 120,000 people with one mid-size city. 20 a month is about right.
The vast majority are suicides, accidents, or just people who live alone and don't get found for a few days.
Now, the slightly larger and more ghetto city one county over? They just had 5 homicides in 55 hours, right before Christmas.
Good thing they just cut their coroner's budget my more than half, prompting the most respected coroner in the state to resign. Well done, county commissioners! At least that way they could pay for the new baseball fields in the rich section of town without raising taxes. Gotta have priorities ..

I would not be surprised if he has. While personally I find it interesting to see how this sort of thing is cleaned up and dealt with (yay hazmat), I can see it being something that some people would have a problem with. I'm not one of those "OMG THINK OF THE CHILDRENS" people, and I've no problem with people of all ages learning that "hey, sometimes this is what happens," (especially with all of the CSI-style shows out there), so I'm probably terribly in the minority of people who would kinda like to see a DJ episode of this, provided that it had a disclaimer for the squeamish. :P

It's not like we have a caste system and these folks aren't allowed to even touch us, never mind talk to us or act like they're real members of society or something. They do a job, they get paid well for it, and so they give some of that money back to the community - seems normal to me.

My husband used to go kart racing, and a regular at the track was in this business. My husband once asked him what the worst scenes were, and we were expecting something gross like being stuck on the carpet stories, but he simply said, "kids." He had many stories, but was mostly out there to wind down. Interesting guy.

See that garbage can full of salt? That's where he keeps his victims. The salt turns the bodies... into mummies.

This Python ditty seems relevant...
Beethoven's gone but his music lives on,
And Mozart don't go shoppin' no more,
You'll never meet Liszt or Brahms again,
And Elgar doesn't answer the door.
Schübert and Chopin used to chuckle and laugh,
Whilst composing a long symphony,
But one hundred and fifty years later,
There's very little of them left to see.
They're decomposing composers,
There's nothing much anyone can do,
You can still hear Beethoven,
But Beethoven cannot hear you.
Händel and Haydn and Rachmaninov,
Enjoyed a nice drink with their meal,
But nowadays no-one will serve them,
And their gravy is left to congeal.
Verdi and Wagner delighted the crowds,
With their highly original sound,
The pianos they played are still working,
But they're both six feet underground.
They're decomposing composers,
There's less of them every year,
You can say what you like to Debussy,
But there's not much of him left to hear.
Claude Achille Debussy, died 1918.
Christophe Willebaud Gluck, died 1787.
Carl Maria von Weber, not at all well1825, died 1826.
Giacomo Meyerbeer, still alive 1863, not still alive 1864.
Modeste Mussorgsky, 1880 going to parties, no fun anymore 1881.
Johan Nepomuck Hummel, chatting away nineteen to the dozen with his mates down the pub every evening 1836, 1837 nothing.

Yes, IIRC. He did an interview some time ago where, I believe, he claimed the idea for crime scene cleanup was shot down by some network big wigs. They thought it was too disturbing and might upset people.
