Here's hoping that they at least don't get gulled by the fake Twitter and Facebook accounts. I swear, half the interest is in poking at the folks trolling, and trolling hard. A lot of folks are hooked on those lines, and damned if the feeding frenzy aspect of this is focused on those folks, as opposed to the asshat in question.

While some might argue there's no such thing as bad press, the extremely quick and negative attention generated by these emails among the tight-knit gaming community shows just how fast a company can go from unknown to infamous.

One would think someone doing marketing for/in that community would know better.

After I saw the conformation that N-Control dumped Ocean Marketing, I purchased an Avenger, as it looks like it'll make long Skyrim sessions easier on my hands.

I see no reason to penalize the company now that they fired the rude offender. Heck, from what I've read about them (before this incident), they do great things to help people with physical disabilities enjoy the same games the rest of us do.

You can never stop bad stuff from happening, but the fast response in terminating the marketing relationship once this came up means that I hope to see N-Control at PAX East.

Okay, so the guy's business is ruined, and his name is mud and will be for a LONG time. At what point does the internet invoke the mercy rule? Lesson learned, Paul Christoforo.

I thought this was all over yesterday when the dude was fired, and the company he used to represent issued a massive mea culpa for letting continue to breathe?

Shadow Blasko: I thought this was all over yesterday when the dude was fired, and the company he used to represent issued a massive mea culpa for letting continue to breathe?

RIght now we're in the "piling on" phase. Next will come the "Penny Arcade guys are now being the bullies" phase.

a monstrous-looking controller attachment that allows for quicker transitions between button presses.

This isn't at all what this controller is for. Way to do your research.

Except, the lesson hasn't been learned, since he's been apologizing because "He didn't know how big penny arcade was". He's not sorry he did it, he's sorry he got caught.

Perhaps you have heard this part of a certain motto: "we do not forgive, we do not forget"?

I'm reminded of the joke about Seamus the Goat Farker....

I think the pain should continue until Mr. Christoforo shows us proof of a completed remedial class covering English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

This is glorious.

2011-12-28 10:49:16 AM
Actually... Maybe something good will come out of this.

From what I can tell, game controllers for the disabled are a niche boutique market, and rather pricy.

Perhaps some philanthropist, or better yet, another company that does the same kind of modifications, will get some limelight out of all this fail.

I know at least one soldier returning from Iraq this month who is an avid gamer, but has three less fingers thanks to an IED. I would like to see him have a controller that lets him continue to play on the same level as the friends he used to play with.

Lato: After I saw the conformation that N-Control dumped Ocean Marketing, I purchased an Avenger, as it looks like it'll make long Skyrim sessions easier on my hands

Pretty much this. The company stepped up and said "You. Asshat. OUT. NOW!" I see no reason to continue to punish THEM.

As for said asshat(s) - show them no mercy, for they have already shown us none.

/Behold the power of the internet.

The inventor of the device and the marketer seem to be partners in at least one other business: Afternoon Artists (new window) and there have been problems in the past with both late shipments and shiatty customer service, there's a page out there in the early 2011 timeframe detailing a similar occurrence to the one that started this.

The inventor knew this guy was an asshole, was warned something like this could happen, and kept with him. Not certain how that should change the reaction to all this, but it is interesting.

"We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in the tubes, in trolling: A man keeps your pre-order money interest free and bullies you when you complain, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy."

Seeing as how it allows one to press almost all the buttons simultaneously while keeping thumbs on the sticks, it does allow for quicker transitions between button presses.

Casual gamer checking in. What does this avenger thingie do that is so doubleplus awesome?

2011-12-28 10:54:55 AM
Just last week I told myself: "I think I'm going to start reading Penny Arcade from the beginning. I haven't seen much of their early work."

Now I'm addicted to it, but I'm stuck. The increased traffic to their site has made it impossible to read the comic... And now everything redirects to the same page. I mean, I can still use Fark to amuse me when I don't feel like working... But I picked the worst time to try to catch up on Penny Arcade.

fireclown: Casual gamer checking in. What does this avenger thingie do that is so doubleplus awesome?

It is a modified controller originally designed to help those with deformities or disabilities involving their hands use the controller in a more natural way.

I spent my childhood moving from school to school and I got made fun of everyplace I landed. I feel like Paul is a bully and maybe that's why I have no sympathy here. Someday every bully meets and even bigger bully and maybe that's me in this case. It's the same thing that happened with Jack Thompson. It might not always make the most business sense and it is a policy that has caused us some legal problems, but I really don't give a shiat about that. When these assholes threaten me or Penny Arcade I just laugh.

I will personally burn everything I've made to the farking ground if I think I can catch them in the flames.

logic, Jerry. you whiffed. Now you're just a psychopath personally leading an army for no real reason besides poor customer service.

maybe next time I have a bad experience at Best Buy I'll e-mail Jerry.

I just finished re-visiting the archives late last week. I really like the "Automata" minicomic they started. It's good, and I'd love to see more, preferably in graphic novel format.

I forwarded yesterday's story, along with this Kotaku site^ that might have found one of Paul's emails, and the Ocean Marketing contact page^ that lists an email address to a Paul at OceanMarketingInc_com (along with the confirmation that it's him since the twitter link at the top is to the now-abandoned @OceanMarketting, on to a friend who's good with the proxies, who told me today that Paul might be slow in responding to emails from those accounts due to needing to catch up on reading a bunch of his new subscriptions and email alerts.

I then told me friend how wrong it was of him to do that, of course...
