Drew Brees may break it next year too.

My money is on Drew Brees.

My money is on Stafford.

This kid is only 23 and playing his first full season. Unlike San Diego with Brees, the Lions didn't give up on him because of health issues. He's only going to get better.

Unlike San Diego with Brees, Stafford didn't get injured in his last game under contract and they don't have a former high first-rounder as his backup.

/Stafford is the only other QB that gets to throw as much as Brees, so there's a chance

If yards the other way counted, then Rivers would have a shot at it.

It will be a Colts QB, whether it be Peyton Manning, or far into the future, Andrew Luck. Due to lack of a running game (there's only a small chance Donald Brown is the real deal for several years to come), they also have a good shot at having free rein with the passing game.

An article to go over the 5 best yardage QBs in the game other than Brees... how original.

I'd agree with others and go with Bree's again... Brady is on pace to break Marino's record this year as well in his next game (needs 198 yards next week).... but Bree's should pad on another 200-300 next week as well, since Bree's should be in the game trying to win, at least until it appears like SF can't lose their game with St. Louis going on at the same time.

One player not mentioned.... Cam Newton, if he can improve over this year, over 4,000 yards in a season already as a rookie, he can make big strides.

Drew Brees may not even have this record at the end of this season.

Brady is 190 behind him with one game to play. The Patriots are going up against Buffalo in a game they need to get home field advantage. Brady threw for 387 against them early this year in a losing effort. Knowing Belichick and Brady, they're going to want to go out with a bang, especially considering the amount of coverage this record has gotten.

Then again, Drew Brees has Carolina in a game they need for a possible 2 seed, and threw for 359 against them earlier this year. So it's highly unlikely.

The record should be around 5400 at the end of this year, and it will be really hard for anyone to get to that mark.

Anyone that's a decent QB.. especially playing in a dome.

Revamped rules.. throw-first league.. it's not exactly a great record to break in 2011.. had he done in in 1986.. then yeah.

Still impressive.. though not nearly as impressive in today's NFL.

No way Brady gets 190 more yards than Brees. Saints won't pull Brees if Brady is still on the field.

Brees' low this year was 269 and 270. Brady will have to get 460 *if* Brees has his worst game of the year.

That's quite a bit to ask.

Considering the SF/Rams game is on at the same time, Brees won't be pulled until its an absolute guarantee that SF or STL are going to win. And that's pretty rare until around the mid-4th quarter. Unless its some crazy 58-3 score in the 3rd.

Also, at the same time, it would have to be a near 100% lock that the Saints have won.

I highly doubt both games will be "over" anytime before mid-4th quarter.

coolio mack: Drew Brees may not even have this record at the end of this season.

If Brees has an average game, Brady would need to pretty much set the all time single game passing yardage record to get past Brees. If Brees has an average game, he ends up with over 5,400 yards. Surpassing that would take an epic effort on Brady's part. More interesting is that both Rodgers and Manning have an outside chance at passing 5,000 yards.

People love saying that, but scoring has remained fairly stable despite all the whining about the NFL becoming the Arena League. It is still about 44 points per game.

Rodgers...realistically not, since there's no reason for him to play the full game except to do that. (maybe break 50 TDs?)

NO is playing for a 1st round bye (but needs STL help...is STL really capable of "help" against SF?) and NE is playing for home field. If the Niners jump out to a lead, would Brees be pulled?

Probably not. But I think it would be amusing to have Brady end up with the record in the end. And it would be amazing to have 4 5,000-yd passers in a single season, given that only 2 had done it before this year (one being Brees).

2011-12-27 06:27:51 PM
I should've stopped reading when the first slide was of Andrew Luck, but then in the next they say Rodgers needs to "improve his accuracy" in order to be a real threat to break the yardage record.

See Finley, you're off the hook! You only "drop" so many passes because Rodgers is so wildly erratic, hitting you in the hands all the damn time.

It's mostly just Steelers fans sad that their retarded linebacker can't go around trying to paralyze people without getting fined.

maxwellhauser: If the Niners jump out to a lead, would Brees be pulled?

No, not unless its a very large lead very late in the game... any by that time, Brees will have racked up enough yards to make it near impossible for Brady unless- like others have said- he somehow shatters the yards-in-a-game record.

Eli has a shot in the future. He already has 4,587 in 15 games this year, so will finish with close to 5,000, and he's still peaking. He'll probably finish in the top 10 for the all time season record this year. He's gone through 3 generations of receivers since he started, he can throw to a dead body and complete a pass. They just got to get a decent center that can snap the damn ball.

Rodgers will do it too.

Brady would have to go legend there, but if there's one guy who can do it, it's him. I'm just banking on the revenge factor of the loss + 4 picks earlier this year. And Fitzpatrick has the ability to make the game a shootout, which would keep Brady throwing. But yeah, it's doubtful.

Rodgers won't get to 5,000 since they have nothing to play for, and really he shouldn't play at all with that banged up offensive line they have. I think Eli will get there in a shootout against the Cowboys.

Also in looking at the stats, 11 QB's should get to 4,000 yards this year, which would break the record of 10 in 2009.

Brees gets sacked third series. Tweaks his ankle. Saints cruise to a 17 point lead by the half. Saints coaches don't want to risk furthur injury w the game in hand. Brady throws for 407 yards. Bady wins? Could happen?

I don't know if it's going to happen in the future, unless the NFL adds one or two more regular season games at some point. The lockout REALLY hurt some defensive secondaries this season (particularly the first half of the season), and it's particularly difficult to handle passing attacks where, literally, every eligible player is a threat to catch the football and make a great play. Obviously the lockout didn't "help" a number of passing offenses, but it can be easier to get back your timing with receivers as an elite QB than it is to, say, get back defensive instinct at game speed if you're a journeyman CB. I also cannot help but wonder if the league will tweak (or, if nothing else, clarify) some of the rules on defensive penalties in the secondary, because inconsistency has been the name of the game.

If the NFL had better quarterbacks in the middle of the pack (Rodgers [though he lacks longevity], Brees, and Brady are, at least at what they've shown so far as their "peak" at the position, top 25 quarterbacks in the history of the league... obviously Manning as well, but he hasn't played this year), I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the record for the league-wide average for passing yards/game would have been annihilated (I don't believe it has been surpassed, but I could be wrong). If Manning had been playing this year, in spite of the likelihood that the Colts would still no be a very good team, I believe he would've been right up there with Brees and the rest in passing yards.

Brady will throw for 600 yards next week while Brees throws for not more than 350.

I thought it was obvious...

maxwellhauser: If the Niners jump out to a lead, would Brees be pulled?

No. Brees has thrown all but two passes that the Saints have thrown this season. Does someone else come in to do handoffs in a mop up role or does Brees just never come out?
