Can I take a moment to express my growing disgust on the 'take one step forward' headlines?

The joke in it is way played out.

they dropped him ?

I see that scholarship story got him an extra week.

/seems like a stupid time to switch WRs though

If the 49ers make it to the NFC Championship (an outside shot), Braylon Edwards will have a right to be extremely pissed off. What has he done (besides a possible internal incident the team hasn't talked about, something like missing meetings or the like) that he hasn't done in the other 15 weeks of the season, that makes you wanna cut him?

It's a good time to free up a wasted roster spot if they're worried about depth at some other position going into the playoffs.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: If the 49ers make it to the NFC Championship (an outside shot),

Yea, definitely an outside shot for the #2 seed to make the NFC Championship game. Herpaderp

All you Farkers perfectly content to continue overusing the "one step forward" meme, take one step forward. Not so fast, Slives

Braylon Edwards is known for having major attitude problems, so it wouldn't shock me if something happened behind the scenes, but this seems more like San Fran freeing up a wasted roster spot to get some more depth for the playoffs.

So the Browns dealt Braylon because they couldn't handle his "New York Essence" and the fans never warmed to him because he went to the University of Michigan.

Then he got released by a team from New York (well, New Jersey) and cut by a team coached by a guy who went to Michigan.

I'm just going to savor the irony here.

i mean. Listen, I love Braylon. I know thats unpopular to say. But honestly, since he came to NY hes had a better additude, has not done nearly as many stupid things and the guy just gave away a million frigging dollars for kids scholarships. Hes not the bad dude, everyone think he is.

That said, hes had a rough year. Nagged by injuries, his production has been minimal, and more so, he hastn had enough reps in practice and with the first team to get involved in the offense. My guess is, niners wanted to free up a roster spot. I dont think its unreasonable for them to have dropped him.

Now if only the Jets could cut Holmes and resign this guy.......

Funny, I was just thinking about selling my car and buying a pair of used roller skates from Goodwill.

Damn. Right after he gave away all that money too. :(

Makes sense.

/they do need that extra roster spot for someone else to help them lose to the Saints in the divisional round.

Not like the dude could take any steps anyways... knee surgery.

...that would've been the headline I went with.

/...yet he's still better than the receiving corps the Browns currently have.
//...'specially Braylon II...er, I mean Greg Little.

I never understood why Santonio Holmes got paid what he did, while Edwards could barely find a job. They both have really similar career numbers, both have some off the field issues, and both performed about the same with the Jets last year.

I guess a Super Bowl winning catch equals 50m.

...they could've just put him on IR and freed up the roster spot that way...

Doesn't a roster slot get freed up when placing a player on Injured reserve?

I thought that is how it worked...and if so, I'd say a shiatty thing to do to someone when you have a chance to go to the big game.

Or there might be more to the story than just being injured.

Wanna know how I know you haven't paid any attention to the soon-to-be NFC #2 seed 49ers at all this season?

He was on a one year contract, so placing him on IR would be pointless.

Well at least that would give him a chance to rehab with the team, use their facilities, etc. Pretty standard even for guys with expiring contracts. Cutting him says they just don't want him around. I'm guessing there has to be something else at play here.

Also came to say this, though maybe not so aggressively; more passive-aggressively. Something like "everybody who can think of a clever headline, take one step forward. Not so fast, subby."

Braylon got cut for being Braylon. Big mouth, small hands, bad influence, no value. also, the rest of the team probably couldn't digest seeing him collect a few playoff bonuses for catching 15 passes on a million buck contract.
