How to see in 3D with a cross-eye view:
Sit square in front of your monitor, with the converted image directly in front of you. (Sitting further back makes it easier - you don't need to cross your eyes as much. Try sitting an arm's length away.)
Make sure you keep your head level horizontally, tilting your head will prevent you from merging the images.
While keeping the stereo pair of images in the center of your vision, slowly cross your eyes.
The stereo pair will go out of focus and you will seem to see three images. Try and hold the center image together - it is possible to "lock" it in place and see it as one 3D image!

If you place your nose directly on your monitor screen just below the three D version and cross your eyes. A six D version can be seen hovering in mid air just above your left eyebrow.

My $.02: The cross-eyed stereo thing, with the left eye aimed at the right-hand image and vice-versa, is really hard to do. It's easier if the images are switched around, so that the left and right images are actually on the left and right, and the viewer's eyelines are more parallel as if looking at a distant scene, the way those Magic Eye things work. The images have to be small enough for that to work, of course.
