I don't think I've ever clicked on a link wishing it to be a slideshow before. I want to convert my 401K into quarters and drive there.

That's fine, it's great to have 2, but the real one is in Vegas.

The linked private collection is over a 1,000 machines. The Vegas one is only ~150 machines.

Back when we used to wear onions on our belts beating a pinball machine wasn't that complicated, you could play for 45 minutes for a quarter.

After digging around, looks like it's gonna be in the same complex as Port Discovery. Kinda a pain for me to get to now that I don't use 83 to come in and out of the city, but whatevs. Otakon ravers are gonna ravage that place if they find out about it :p

I wonder if they have Stern's "Orbitor 1" there. Trippy playing field; you have to use the Force to master it.

/and I did
//oh yes

I cannot wait to go there. A friend of mine volunteered a bit helping set it up and he showed some really crazy pictures. Unfortunately, you can't play all the machines (some are very rare, some are really fragile, some don't work), but most of them you can play and are in great shape. They have so many damn pinball machines and pinball ephemera I will probably bust a nut just walking into that place.

I got my calendar marked. My bank account is going to take a massive hit.

My best friend and I had the original 8 Ball table in town figured out. We could walk in there with a quarter apiece & play all night.

FTFA:
"New technology has made pinball machines nearly as obsolete as ice cream fountains and penny candy..."

What utter bullshiat. It's like saying that darts are in danger because you can play them on a touchscreen now, same with pool. These aren't going anywhere, and neither is pinball, IF designers can come up with new ideas. There is something way too organic about pinball for it to fall by the wayside, and if anything allows it to, it's people not respecting the past, not because of technology. As a matter of fact, better tech just means that you can build cooler stuff into a pinball machine.

I'm getting one for the house eventually, but I want an older one with stuff like the rotary dials for the score, rather than a digital display, probably not the 'Minstrel Man' one in the video though, that's a tad overboard... Of course, there were some great ones I played in my teens... Haunted House, Fireball and High Speed were my favorites of the 80's...

Well Im glad he is reopening it. I was mad I never got the chance to go to his space in Georgetown.

That's the one. Forget thinking about the ball; one must *become* the ball.

From your link:
"This game has a novel "minimum play time" feature which cannot be disabled. Game play is standardized at 3 or 5 balls, however, if the player has not had the specified minimum amount of play after his 3 or 5 balls, the game will continue to provide free balls until the minimum time is reached."

Now that's just too cool for words... They designed it so that you wouldn't get frustrated too easily. I bet in the long run, that 'minimum play time' paid off in people being willing to come back to this difficult game and give it another try... Someone had a 'light bulb' moment for sure...

I thought so too. A game with such an obvious learning curve cutting some slack. I wonder if this table is available on visual pinball. I'll have to check it out.

Meh, anything that can be mastered by some kid who is deaf, dumb, and blind can't be that fun.

ertznay: Gorgar is the greatest pinball game ever.

On my short list of favorites.

Last year, sold my well-beaten Star Trek machine.

Still have an affinity for the old mechanical machines over the digital.

My friend restored an old "Wisconsin roll-down" machine. They passed an anti-pinball law once in Wisconsin; the law defined the machine as standing on four legs and using flippers. So, the manufacturers got around this for a short time by making the machines a huge floor-standing box, without any legs at all, and by removing the flippers and making the thing work more like a pachinko machine.

I made it to their location in the Georgetown mall. It was a lot of fun. I highly recommend the one with the alien chicks who moan orgasmically when you hit the bumpers. They're supposed to change around the games on display too so if you come back a few months later there should be some new stuff to try out.

Much of the early 90s were spent mastering Addams Family, T2 & Fish Tales. I logged 1.6B on T2...the game lasted just over an hour (excluding my buddy sitting on the flipper for a Dr. Pepper/doobie break.)
