Whats with the Jets and the NY media obsession with washed up quarterbacks every time things don't go the Jets way.

First Testavede, then Farve...Now Manning?

I still laugh remembering everyone crying about Testervede being lost for the season during game one and listening to everyone crying "Boohoohoo, there goes my fantasy team"

/IIRC it pissed off the Jets so much they pushed for natural grass the next season

Manning probably has one or two good years left in him. The problem isn't so much their obsession with washed up quarterbacks, though. The Meadowlands is not nice to QBs, much like Soldier Field. There's a reason the Giants, Jets, and Bears struggle to have those long tenured elite level QBs. The Giants have had the best run of the three in the past 30 years, and their two best(Collins and E Manning) are/were woefully erratic at times and turnover prone at the worst times. No great QB wants to voluntarily play for those teams.

The Jets would have to cut half their defense to fit him under the cap. It just isn't happening.

You know, people need to stop hating on Rex Ryan. He is without question one of the best motivators in the NFL.

Just this weekend he motivated the Giants to have one of their best games all year!

Rex probably isn't impressed with Peyton's footwork.

It wouldnt really make sense. Not that I have much faith, but get rid of Shotty early in the offseason, bring in moore as OC, and give Sanchez one more shot. hes got a year left anyway. Like i said, i dont have a ton of faith. But who knows. We could afford Peyton anyway.

/Hopes he heard the last of Rex defending a horribly mediocre Sanchez.

You are being kind. The Jets would be better off with Pedro Sanchez taking the snaps. He can throw a ball to the moon.

Dirty Sanchez...bones the Jets fans up the ass (and Eagle fans this year too)...and rubs the stench right under their nose.

Bill Cowher was a great motivator; Rex's just a fat, loud-mouth slob.

True, but I wouldn't want him as the next Giants head coach.

Rwa2play: Bill Cowher was a great motivator; Rex's just a fat, loud-mouth slob.

Until he wins a Super Bowl, of course. Cowher didn't win anything for a dozen years, now that he won a Super Bowl and left shortly after, everyone thinks he's the greatest. Never mind that the ownership of that franchise is rock-solid and that even his replacement, a rookie coach in his first job, managed to win a title shortly after Cowher left, showing that it's the organization, not the coach, we'll still call Cowher a master.

It's interesting that people talk about Reid being awful and giving the credit to Jim Johnson...Look at the Steelers' defensive rankings when Dick LeBeau is working for them and when he's not.

Comes on with Cowher in '92-'96. This correlates with their first trip to the SB since the '70s.

They go from 22nd in the league in defense to 13th, then 2nd, 8th, 2nd. LeBeau goes to Cincinnati.

They drop to 6th, 12th, 11th, 7th, 1st, 7th, 9th.

LeBeau comes back in 2004.

They go 1st, 4th, 9th, 1st, 1st, 5th, 2nd, 1st.

They win Super Bowls ONLY when their defense is ranked No. 1 in scoring and yardage. And we still pretend that he's not the reason for their success? The Steelers have never had a losing season with LeBeau on their sidelines. They've never been outscored. They've missed the playoffs twice in 14 seasons (without him they missed the playoffs four times in six seasons).

And we're giving Cowher credit? C'mon, man.

Remember this past offseason when Jets fans were talking about how Sanchez was good because he led them to the 2 previous AFC Championship game, and how blah, blah, blah....?

I haven't watched the Jets this year to say whether I think its him or something else (O line, poor route running, predictable play calling, can't run the ball, or Sanchez). But, IMO, he's been a dependable, middle of the road QB who plays in a system that uses his strengths, balanced with a solid running game. Its not that he's horrible, but I don't think he's good enough to carry a team (Brees, Brady, Manning, Rodgers) by himself.

2011-12-27 08:12:34 PM
Whoops - should be missed the playoffs 4 times in 7 seasons without him, twice in 13 seasons with him.

iron_city_ap: Remember this past offseason when Jets fans were talking about how Sanchez was good because he led them to the 2 previous AFC Championship game, and how blah, blah, blah....?

Again, I think is more of a case of first everyone comes in and says he's one of the sh*ttiest QBs in the league. People who just hate stupid hyperbole would point out that he's been a QB for a team that's made two consecutive AFCCGs, which requires winning multiple playoff games each year, so clearly he's not THAT sh*tty.

And then people act as though others think he's great. Same goes for Tebow. Everyone comes in and says he's the sh*ttiest QB ever and needs to change positions. Other people point out that the team has improved its performance with him under center over a pretty much standard-definition "average" QB, so he's probably not the worst. Then everyone who came in and said he's the worst think those people are praising him and giving him credit for everything.

There are far worse QBs in the NFL...like Blaine Gabbert.
