I got goose bumps watching that play.
And this is an insane year for NFL quarterbacks, Brady will crack 5,000 yards. Rodgers and Manning will at the worst finish within spitting distance of it. And all 10 of the top 10 QBs for yardage could finish over 4,000 yards. Including Cam Newton. Who is also currently second for rushing TDs, not for QBs but for all players. And this is just his rookie year. Oh and as for Manning, this is his third straight season with 4,000 yards passing. That puts him on a very short list.

Perfect game for me.
Absolute perfection.
Drew breaking the passing yards record, on a touchdown pass, on a Monday night game, against the Falcons after dominating them all game. The Falcons saw pass coming all the way that drive and they still couldn't stop it from happening to them. There is no way the night could have been better for the Saints.

Major League Baseball taints record books by allowing steroid use to go unchecked, resulting in the destruction and devaluation of home run records:
OMG U RUINED THE NUMBERS THIS SPORT IS A JOKE
National Football League tweaks rules in favor of pocket-passing quarterbacks for nearly a decade, resulting in the destruction of NFL passing records in 2011:
...
(And yes, I'm aware that Dan Marino's record was undoubtedly a result of the 1978 introduction of illegal contact. Illegal contact didn't transform the National Football League into a brand of football where a strong passing game trumps strong running games and strong defenses. The rules have destroyed any semblance of balance and this is the result.)

Oh, and the lockout probably had a lot to do with it, since it revealed which side of the balls requires more time to develop chemistry and get into game shape in the event of a shutdown. Oh, and my job is to play devil's advocate in every thread. The end.

Also who'd ever imagine with how much bigger quarterbacks are now compared to Marino's day, it would be a quarterback that's smaller than Marino who'd break his single season record?

Brees seems...not worth it.
He's the first QB to go over 5,000 yards twice. He's tied with Peyton Manning for most consecutive seasons of 4,000 yards or more. He's as good as they come. Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Manning, that's as good as it gets. Though give Cam Newton another season or two and we may be changing our definition of as good as it gets.

He's too much of a system product.
Brees was plenty good with the Chargers. And as for being a system quarterback, that's kind of the knock on Brady, sure he's great, as long as most things are going according to design. Given the days of quarterbacks just calling their own plays when they want are done with, to some degree all quarterbacks now are system quarterbacks.

But Brady has two targets of quality: Welker and Gronkowski. There's no other supurb quality on that team. The Pats this year are kind of like Indy these last couple: one dude holding it together by the sheet ability. They literally don't have a defense. The Saints are loaded across the board. Anyone would shine in there at QB. The Pats wouldn't quite be Indy but they'd suck hard without Brady.
That's why Brees isn't impressive. He doesn't have to be stellar, his WRs are, and they have a good ground game to keep you honest. I'm just not convinced Brees is so great.

LOL no. Rodgers, Peyton and Brady are all unquestionably better than him. I can't see him as any better than 4th. He's too much of a system product. Put someone like Flacco in there and he'd have an easy 4,000, maybe even 4,500.

So many QB fangirls and apologists these days. Why not just admit that Brees -- as well as Brady, Peyton and Rodgers -- are all amazing QB's, and they would be in any era? To dismiss the talents of any of them just makes you look shallow and biased. Some of you make it sound as if you consider certain of these players your boyfriends.
Congrats, Drew Brees. You earned your success and accolades, no matter what the armchair masturbators say.
/Rodgers is MVP. Anybody arguing for Brady or Brees is simply wrong.

Also, enjoy losing your first road playoff game again.

This. You have a guy with former #1 draft picks Marques Colston and Lance Moore along with perennial allstar Devery Henderson as WR and Ryan Leaf would be leading a dynasty and averaging 6000 yards a season. Not to mention their defense makes the 2000 Ravens look like the Little Giants WITHOUT Ice Box

LOL WUT? Brees has been just like Rodgers in this season, in that sense of "okay, got the snap, I think I want the ball... exactly... there!" and *BOOM* the ball is exactly there. That relentless efficiency of good pass after good pass after good pass that's mindnumbing in it's consistency, and with that hallmark of the truly gifted, making it look like it's easy.

The Saints defense? A defense that is ranked 15th for points per game allowed? The same defense that is 30th in the NFL for yards given up? Oh 31 is the Packers and 32 is the Pats. This season's Ravens are third for fewest yards given up and third for fewest points per game allowed. By every measure the Ravens' defense is superior to the Saints' defense. And to the Patriots' defense. And the Packers' defense. The only top teams that are on the Ravens' level are the 49ers and Steelers.

If you didn't include yards after the catch Marino would've been nowhere near 5,000 yards. Fouts wouldn't have had three straight seasons of 4,000 plus yards.

QB numbers any year wouldn't be as high as they are If you didn't include YAC, Captain Obvious. But you know what, we do include YAC because part of a QBs job is to put the ball is a position where his receiver can make a play.
and yet this year offenses are built around yac, half the league is setting new offensive records, and even rookie qb's are lighting the league's pathetic D up

Good jorb on Brees getting the record in front of the home fans...
I'm sure that played a part in it...playing at home...I mean, why else would you have your team's best player still on the field with 3 minutes left in the game (which was long over at that point), STILL throwing the ball, making almost no attempt to run out the clock? I understand they wanted him to get the record in front of the home fans, but they'd have felt ultra-dumb had something happened to Brees or a WR/TE trying in junk time trying to break a record...especially when they have another entire game left.
Based off last night, I have no doubt the Saints will play Brees all day this weekend regardless of how badly SF is stomping StL...they'll try and pass for as many TDs as possible so Brees can 'try' and pass Rodgers for the yearly TD tally as well. Meanwhile, GB will likely be resting most of their key players...in a game Rodgers could easily throw another 3-5 TDs.

Ha ha...I hope so. Unfortunately, their offense is just as explosive as the Packers (though Brees does tend to turn the ball over more frequently), but their D is much better. Best part is they'll have to play in Lambeau in late January, which might slow 'em down a bit. (hopefully)
Saints look tough though, Niners look good too but they don't put up scary offensive numbers like the Saints.

He wasn't who they thought he was, even though he had been who they thought he was in Minnesota under Dennis Green.
As someone who's been a Saints' fan since the days of Mora and the Dome Patrol, I wasn't terribly enthused about the Brees prospect. Another Jeff Blake, maybe another Jim Everett. Couldn't have been more wrong, obviously. Certainly not another Billy Joe Hobert (not pronounced O-ber), but probably not much better than a lot of other journeymen available on the free agent list.
But the real story about the Saints right now is that they've got a running game. They didn't when they got trampled by Marshawn Lynch in Seattle in January. I don't think Wee Dat or Ingram are going to care that it's 12 degrees in Green Bay. Evans and Nicks certainly won't. Where ya at, Falcon-spawn Matthews? Come at me, bro.
