Because what those godforsaken, shanty-town-livin', poverty-struck sonsabiatches
really
need is a multi-million dollar escalator.
I'm glad to see their government's got their best interests at heart *golf clap*

Is the government going to build gyms to provide these people with the exercise they're no longer getting climbing the hills?
Gunny Walker
2011-12-27 04:18:01 AM
They overspent on the project by building an escalator that goes down. They could have just built a couple of giant slides.

Meh. I've been on Hong Kong's outdoor escalator system. It's over 2500 feet long. Now
that's
a biatch of a climb.

The steps at LA Universal studio sound fairly similar in height. Or does that not count since universal uses cocaine instead of making it?

An escalator where a

Strange idea. Only problem is, I wouldn't want to trip at the last second and fall all the way down.

So now they'll be poor and fat due to their government blowing a bunch of money on an escalator that results in a reduction in the amount of exercise they get instead of on something that actually helps them

lotta quality metal in that thing. first time it breaks down, it will be stripped from the hillsides by the columbian equivalent of tweakers. Hell, they won't even wait for it to break.

Building something like that outside is just stupid. The maintenance costs will be insane which probably means it will never be done, leading to them breaking down and residents just using them as stairs (assuming they don't start freewheeling down, which is a risk itself).

Come on, stop being ridiculous. This is an incredible addition to the community. There already IS a monorail... and ski-lifts gondolas. No other city on earth is making these transport innovations. A project like this is of HUGE benefit to the community, as has been proven in neighborhoods where the metrocable was built - offering them more access to health, security, and education.
It rains every day. That's not going to be a problem. We are also not living in 1988: Medellín is one of the safest Latin American cities.
Seriously, you'd think people here would be a bit more intellectually inquisitive.

Obviously you have not read much about this city or the extreme care that goes into maintenance of its metro and gondola (metrocable) systems. Now's a good time.

What they need is a big pulley system. When one person wants to go up, just wait for someone who is coming down to use as a counterbalance.
