(YouTube) Amusing Tying a 150lb dog to a wagon to help deliver popcorn seemed like a great idea   (youtube.com) divider line 35

Popcorn isn't exactly fragile. I doubt it can bust under its own weight.

But let this be a lesson kids: a dog is your friend, not your tool. If you don't train them to do what you want for a little stunt like this with compassion and gentle persistence you will be sorry. And if you hurt your dog doing dumb crap you will be more sorry. Catfish?

That poor dog.

1,000 years of selective breeding in order to ensure the perfect mountain rescue dog and you strap him to a wagon in the suburbs and expect him to joyfully deliver your overpriced popcorn in your posh suburb? Good boy Rocky. Good boy.

My malamutes do that. They love pulling and rarely get to do it. So if I hook their harness up to a downed tree or something they just hit the damn gas and don't look back. Hooked them both up and figured "Hey between the three of us we can move this trunk 20 feet". Next thing I know they're dragging it across the field and wagging like it is fun.

/pretty sure this one was more trying to get the hell away from the wagon

PROTIP:

Unless properly trained, dog's generally freak out when tied to a large object. Especially when that large object makes noise when dragged, and they don't expect that noise. They will freak the f*ck out and run like the dickens in fear of that object. This causes much chaos, as the dog will then run that much faster from this thing that is (in their eyes) chasing them down.

That is all.

A dog that's too big for them with a truck in the driveway that's too big for them. Why do these things so frequently go together in the suburbs?

there is no farking way that dog is 150 pounds. 50 pounds, maybe.

I agree that this was stupid, but it appears that he had no problem pulling the wagon on the street while delivering. It was when he got home, his instinct was to run quickly inside.

A couple of my relatives have Burners.. they are easily 120+ pounds. They are big, thick dogs! Heck, my redbone is 65 lbs and is skin and bones... and not nearly as big as a burner.

CSB Years ago I had a dog the neighborhood kids would call on to come outside and play. I looked out the front window one day to see my dog tied up to a radio flyer with a kid in it. The kid threw a stick, the dog went after it as fast as he could, then gave the stick back to the kid. repeat.

I had a similar incident with a large Siamese cat and a lawn chair.

It's funnier to see something the size of that wagon hauling ass around the yard with a 20 pound cat pulling it.

I'm glad the humorless dog owners took the time to drop in on this thread. Dog threads just aren't the same without them.

That is AWESOME. Sounds like your dog enjoyed playing with the kids as much as they enjoyed playing with him.

So, did anyone notice the girl (I assume it's a girl) saying "farking... " at the end of the video? It sounds like the F bomb was partially bleeped.

Berners are bred for this kind of work. It's not uncommon to see them in small Swiss towns hauling wagons with milk jugs and such. Of course, those wagons are made with special harnesses built especially for dogs to pull, not some crappy Radio Flyer on a rope. I'd bet a trained dog would have freaked out at one of those clanky things.

Dog tips wagon, then the popcorn (in individually wrapped packages in a big box) falls, then the wagon tips over a bike?

Hilarity ensues?

/not funny

I'm surprised the sound didn't scare him even more. Pretty funny video though!

I had a Berner as a service dog (about 80-90lbs fwiw). He used to love pulling me around in my wheelchair. Just tell him to go and brake to keep control. He went through some serious training though.

RIP Chopper!
