No. If you want to spend your own money, time, and resources to put up & maintain such memorials, I've no beef (ha, ha) with that. Do not, however, try to force the state government to spend my money, time, and resources to do so. After all, you kill animals on a regular basis, and I don't see any "memorials" at your euthanasia clinic in Virginia. Mote in neighbor's eye, beam in your own, and all that.

I tend to agree.

Here in Florida, the trend for a while was to build these big gaudy memorials on the sides of roads where accidents occurred. It was normally the family doing it, so I can empathize with their motives, but there has to be better ways to grieve than a 5-foot wooden cross wrapped in X-mas lights, surrounded by a massive flower garden.

I do like the little state-issued memorials they do, though. It's just a basic street-sign, all metal, placed at the crash site, with a round white or purple sign that says "Please Drive Safely," then says "In Memorial Of . . ." with the victim's name.

They're not obnoxious looking, and they also serve the purpose to indicating to me that this road can be tricky, and maybe I should slow down.

My old suburban had a grill guard that would cut a deer in half. Great memories!
