I just won my Superbowl, and yes, I did have David Akers and his 19 points (in my league scoring).

2011-12-26 10:57:41 AM
Yes, because a kicker who, on a great day, averages less than most great running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks is probably what will lead you to victory.

2011-12-26 11:13:04 AM
I found that Jason Elam was the only reason I made the fantasy football playoffs four years running. Streak ended a year ago.

Kicking for a team that can't score in the red zone helps, go figure.

2011-12-26 11:23:08 AM
I think Stafford, Rice, Wallace, Welker and Gronk had more to do with it.

2011-12-26 11:28:40 AM
I didn't make it, but it wasn't cause of my kicker at least, Seabass.

I'm going to lose in the championship again. This is not a repeat of the last two years.

One more and I can say that I'm from New York.

It worked quite well for her last year, didn't it? Almost as well for me this year.

Don't be stupid. You don't draft kickers. You let everyone that wants one take one while you pick up trade bait. Then you take the best kicker still available.

2011-12-26 11:39:00 AM
I vote for Cruz for my teams MVP. Once i got him I went from a 5 game losing streak (started 1-5) to being 50 points ahead in the Super Bowl. Just need white and graham to not get 50 points, which I think isn't too unreasonable.

I ended up sticking with about half my initial draft. Michael bush, welker, gronkowski, Brady, janikowski, and the pats kicker.

Ended up picking up denarius moore, Cruz, lynch, and the bears/49ers d later on as injuries began.

2011-12-26 11:43:47 AM
Akers? I don't need no steenkin' Akers to win the Fark UFIA Conference. Aaron Rodgers is my MVP.

In my league Akers averages about 2 pts per game over the next 4 best kickers.

No big deal really.

Rodgers averages about 5-7pts more per game over the 3-5 top QBs.

2011-12-26 11:56:31 AM
I had SeaBass as well, except for a few games mid season where I put in Cundiff. This was a horrible season for injuries. My lineup has been all over the place. Drew Brees I believe is my only draft pick that I didn't have trouble with at some point. However, I am in the championship game and almost guaranteed to win tonight (got Brees, Colston, and Gonzalez while he just has Sproles, with me down by only 5.54 points). The biggest reason I made it is getting Lynch off FA and a stretch of great Seattle D games.

GimpyNip: Pratty: I didn't make it, but it wasn't cause of my kicker at least, Seabass.

Well...he did finish 9th and only had a couple big games down the stretch.

Yeah, but I mostly meant that I missed by my own issues: Twice I benched a player who if I hadn't I would have won and once I didn't switch players because I had been burned by that twice and so lost it, and I only missed the playoffs by one(And I would have won every round so far going by putting my point totals where my seed would be).

West Coast Waivers saved me this season... picked up Akers after Kaeding went down in San Diego and someone was foolish enough to drop Marshawn Lynch at the beginning of November right before he went full beast mode. Lost only one game in the second half of the season, came back from down three games in my division, and now sitting in the title game with a 30.5pt lead and Brees vs Sproles tonight. Huzzah!

/cool story, bro

No, I won because instead of grabbing Brees, Rodgers, or Brady in the first round; I took Ray Rice and Darren Sproles before picking up Matthew Stafford as my number 1 on a huge gamble (and lots of laughter). Won our league Super Bowl last week and finished 11-4.

2011-12-26 12:29:47 PM
For my first draft pick this year, I took Reggie Wayne (remember, Peyton Manning was only suppose to miss the first game at most, despite how so many people now claim they knew in June he'd be out for the whole year). My second pick was Vick. After the first week I dropped Maclin for Dexter McLuster (worst mistake ever). Maclin only got 3 fantasy points the first game of the season, so I figured he wouldn't amount to much this year. I have Wilis McGahee (will he score 30 fantasy points or 5? there is no in between with him). I traded Beenie Wells, who was pretty much the same as McGahee, and got Stevie Johnson. I also have Antonio Gates. And Brandon Lloyd. And Steven Jackson. Long story short, I'm playing in the Toilet Bowl this week for tenth place. I just need Kasey to score four points for me and I'll finish second to last.

/in my other league I made the finals though.... and lost....

2011-12-26 12:30:52 PM
Im down 20 something with Brees and Graham left to play in my final, so I'm in a good position.

I made the final with horrible runningbacks because Akers/Brees/Graham had or will have record braking seasons.

2011-12-26 12:41:22 PM
Actually its because I picked up Stafford for a buck to be a bye week fill-in for Peyton Manning. And then picked up Cam Newton off waivers.

/glad to see Akers is having a good year.

2011-12-26 12:41:40 PM
I finished with a mediocre year thanks to being married and on a honeymoon for the first three weeks of the season, so I didn't get any of the waiver wire guys.

Then again, I typically had the guys on the team that were supposed to be good instead of the waiver wire guys that destroyed their production.

Victor Cruz can eat a bag of sh*t for what he helped do to Hakeem Nicks' numbers. Philip Rivers, thanks for sucking ass.

I picked up Tolbert and Michael Bush just figuring that Matthews and McFadden would get injured...then I finally got sick of getting nothing from Bush and tried to get someone else...and the next game McFadden finally got injured, but it was too late to get Bush back by the time I got back.

2011-12-26 12:46:26 PM
David Akers was still available on waivers in week 4 in my league.

/I draft my D/ST and Kickers in week 2 of the season
//got Kasay and Houston D that way
///also could have had 49ers D as well, but didn't want to waste a roster spot

I have a 48 pt lead in super bowl going into tonights game but opponent has Drew Brees and Tony Gonzalez going. I am pissed at myself for pulling out Stephen Jackson and putting in Mike Tolbert since that cost me nine points. Hopefully does not bite me in the ass.

2011-12-26 12:58:37 PM
I need Brees to score 38 or less against ATL tonight for me to win it. Decent odds, but it's a god damn nail biter.

/Rivers f*cked me

FitzShivering: Yes, because a kicker who, on a great day, averages less than most great running backs, wide receivers, and quarterbacks is probably what will lead you to victory.

Fantasy football is about differentials, not actual points. If top kicker averages 10 more points than the average kicker, and the top players from the other positions average 8 more points over his position, that kicker is the most valuable fantasy player.

2011-12-26 01:59:43 PM
I was doing awesome going into my playoffs, then Forte and Jennings went down, as did my chances at the championship. I'm still going to get third place.

2011-12-26 02:13:39 PM
Akers, Hernandez, AND Rodgers on my team. I still managed to find a way to come in 7th due to a plethora of derp from my 3 WR's. I can't count the number of times I've had two straight weeks of ear goose-egg, and the week I bench them they put up 15+ each...

And this is why Philly paid the price. I HATED that they cut him because of one bad game after a decade of being the best kicker in the NFC. Also, wasn't he having some sort of family health problem that week that he was not blaming but players were saying the media should respect him for playing through.

Welcome to the club. I'm leading in my championship game, but with no points from Romo it is only a 1 point lead. My opponent has Matt Bryant tonight. My only hope is for the Saints to shut out the Falcons - which means I have no hope.

/Should have started Eli Manning, but thought the Jets D would be better

I drafted McCoy, Jennings, and Welker. I made the championship because I picked up Newton along the way. I lost the SB due to McCoy's 4, McGahee's 6, and my kickers 1

Same with me. I thought after they decided to pull Romo for the rest of the game, I was toast, but wouldn't you know it, David Akers kept me competitive. I'm now only 5 points behind him and we both have one WR playing tonight. It's gonna come down to the wire. Should be fun.

Technically I haven't lost yet as I'm down 37 and have Jimmy Graham and Lance Moore tonight. My opponent has Tony Gonzalez so...yeah, I don't think I have enough firepower barring a miracle. It would actually be a relief if my two players didn't do much tonight because the thought of managing a team an entire year and losing close because Romo's ouchy widdle fingies...ugh...the bitterness...

I bet its because, historically, on the last weekend some of the best players on the best teams get rested

Oh fark you. His "ouchy widdle fingies?" You saw his hand swell up. Are you implying that he could've thrown a football with a swollen hand like that? The guy plays through pain all the time. It's not a pain issue, it's a "you can't grip a football with your hand swollen like that" issue.

Besides, we're playing for the NFC East next week. We couldn't risk him getting injured any further.
