There aren't lesbians in the WNBA?

"I apologize for even uttering the comments, whether you heard them or not, whether you were offended or not."

See, this is an actual apology, not like the fake ones along the lines of "I'm sorry that *you* took offense."

Bob_Laublaw: See, this is an actual apology,

BS. This is as empty an apology as they come. They only thing he's sorry for is being called out. Fark him.

In women's basketball, I always root against the heterosexual.

People wouldn't have such a problem with the WNBA if ESPN and Stern didn't try to force it down our throats.

That is all an apology should be in most cases. Why should they apologize if you can't handle what they say?

I got a simple solution to that. Stop watching the NBA (aka Predetermined Thugball).

buckeyebrain: I got a simple solution to that. Stop watching the NBA

Way ahead of the curve on that one. I love college ball but wouldn't watch an NBA game if you paid me.

I remember Bruce Jacobs from years ago on Fox Sports radio, he says stuff like this all the time.

If I were his boss, I'd fire him because he thought that line was funny.

Well, if he is told to issue an apology but he doesn't believe he did anything wrong, then what should he say?

I remember when Jim Rome was interviewing David Stern and at the very end Rome said something to the effect of, "Next time you're on we should have a chat about the WNBA."

Stern: "We aren't going there Jim."

living in phx and listening to/working in sports radio (for a time with jacobs at kgme) i've heard him a lot through the years. he also dabbled in right wing political radio. he's an inflammatory douche at best and an all out racist at worst. it was a sophomoric comment and a good example of his intellect and humor. i could care less if he gets fired or finds another gig, just glad he doesn't get air time in phx any longer.

2011-12-25 10:54:50 PM
So he went from Fox Sports in LA to ESPN in Albany. Apparently his career was already moving in reverse. Maybe he was just conducting an experiment to determine if anyone was actually listening to his show.

I've been called out on the carpet for lesser flaps than this.

i think no one in today's media does not wants originality or anything creative.
obviously this asshats' boss let him do this.
anyways,
i thought of this in less than 5 minutes:
hello ladies and gentiles, get ready for today's wnba match up between the virginia splits and the witchata stream beavers, were the only balls these ladies will handle will be on this court. today's game is brought to you by stanley steamer carpet cleaners and the new Vulva Osprey that features all wheel drive for those slick roads we encounter on the ride home.

/see, how hard can that be.

It fills the summer broadcast schedule. What else are they going to run, more episodes of NFL Live in May?

Yeah, that'll put butts in the seats.

I really wish I could say that without lying.

I think I would care more about this if the WNBA actually had ANY significance at all in the sports world. It gets bad ratings, the games are boring as hell, and I can't name ONE player from the league.

He should be more ashamed that it wasnt even funny or entertaining, thats why they should fire him, everyone knows the WNBA is boring.

2011-12-25 11:57:16 PM
It was probably more of a joke than it was hate. I do feel like I'm owed an apology for that terrible attempt at humor though.

To be fair he said it on a radio how. He probably thought nobody would hear it because people don't listen to the radio anymore unless it is the backwards people that listen to Rush.

I'm just saying if the guy wants to go down that road he should at least have some material. Even 7th grade innuendo about "taking it to the hole" or questioning a woman's ball-handling skills is better than simple name calling.

Huh, and here I thought the stereotype was that women weren't funny. Perhaps Bruce should retire to sandwich-making and cleaning house.

No, women suck at sports once they reach 15, some women are funny just most of them believe shiat like Jeff Dunham is comedy.

orange storm: I remember Bruce Jacobs from years ago on Fox Sports radio, he says stuff like this all the time.

Yeah, once I saw his name and mention of FoxSports LA, I figured the ESPN connection was probably less noteworthy. So now he's doing local sports radio in Albany? I would do some googling to find out what happened to his Fox career, but really, why should I bother? I'm pretty sure I've never heard anyone doing sports radio for Fox who wasn't an asshole and proud of it. There's some fairly annoying types over on ESPN, but for the most part, they're generally benign.

Do you know ANYONE who watches the WNBA? I don't. I know people who follow the KHL and Japanese baseball, but no one who follows the WNBA.

Walk around an arena during a game and it might as well be a lesbian singles bar.

He should have defended it on the merits.
