I blame the alcohol for the dust content in my room.

He's seen his daughter only 2 weeks in the last 2 YEARS??!!

I understand people become desperate and take contracting jobs overseas beacuse of the lack of jobs here, but wow...leaving your child for just 2 weeks can seem like an eternity for them.

I hope he finishes his contract and brings home enough money to sustain the family for a while. She clearly loves and needs her daddy.

Cynically, that was my take. The guy was able to buy the gifts that everyone wanted because he took a job in Iraq that paid him incredibly well, but in the meantime, kept him overseas for all but two weeks in two years. I don't find that admirable.

1. Two weeks in two years? Call me an ass, but nope, I don't find that admirable at all.

2. Two years in Iraq with two weeks of vacation to keep his house? Either my understanding of pay for contractors is very distorted (and it probably is, I literally have no idea what that pay is for an electrical contractor), or they have a very very expensive home and should consider moving down.

As I said, cynically, I expect this guy is in Iraq for 2 years not because he is keeping a house from foreclosure, but because he wants to make a ton of dollars. Fine, all the more power to him. But I don't find that behavior in exchange for not seeing your kids for two years to be admirable at all.

As a parent myself, am i the only one who thinks its incredibly selfish of him to waste his limited time setting up this grandiose scheme when he could have come straight home and spent every second with his daughter?

2011-12-26 04:24:50 PM
How a father could do that to a child, leaving her for a majority of her childhood, is sad. It is sad America has come to this. The last 30 years have not been kind to the USA.

Whatever, Dick. Did you have fun at the Occupy rally? You entitled piece of shiat - some of us have to do things that are sacrifices to the family in order to maintain a living.

What's the matter, not boot-strappy enough for ya?

\I would rather be home with my kids

No worries, I'll happily go head to head with anyone that wants to lecture me about sacrifices for family. Instead of masturbating again, why don't you tell me more about salaries of contractors for two years in Iraq, and tell me more about how they couldn't get more than a week of vacation a year.

I think it is more of a tax issue. If you do not come to the United States you don't pay taxes, hence the visit in Germany.

So one of you dumbasses thinks I must be an #OccupyWallStreet and the other dumbass knows I must be a tea partier.

In the meantime, both of you shiat for brains fail to see I don't give a shiat about his working in Iraq, the issue is one of is claiming to do that as a contractor and only have one week off a year to see his girl, all while you tell me how impoverished he must be that he does this, sees his kid one week a year, to keep her fed.

There are all sorts of jobs I could believe that about, but not the job of being an electrical contractor in Iraq.

That's nonsense and you know it.

Gee, I don't have the details of why he's working that job. Neither do you.

The difference here is that you are chapping his ass for not being there for his child, and I assume he is working there for a valid reason.

Until you have proof he's a greedy bastard that abandoned his child for cheap thrills and hot chicks in a war zone, I'm gonna assume he's a normal human being and is working there because it will pay him well, and allow him to eventually spend more time at home and make it up to his daughter.

Or you can continue to be an insufferable prick, if that works for you.

Merry Christmas.

I hope he can do it before she leaves for college. I think his daughter would rather he be home, than have an overseas job that will "pay him well."

As a 20 year veteran (getting ready for retirement) I've been through deployments taking me away from my wife for months at a time. I've seen that look the girl made in the video and I NEVER want to see it again. This grown-ass man burst into tears after seeing that.

Like I said, this guy probably had his reasons for going overseas, but there is no way I could leave my 4 month old son like he did.his daughter. I'd work as many jobs as I had to to make ends meet. This guy is an electrician, so there shouldnt be a problem finding employment. He may have temporarilly helped his family financially, but he most definately hurt his daughter in the meantime, hopefully not permanently.

Kids are tougher than we think. She'll be fine, course he needs to wrap it up pretty soon and get his ass home before the boys start hawking her.

This is when someone posts a picture of a Iraqi family, that has helped supported the troops during the war, huddled in the fear now that their protection has up and left.
